| That's awesome that Pippin would think that Sam is above all of them now. I liked his response to his mother. How humble thinking and wise of Pippin! :) Indeed, Sam's rank has increased since the Quest very much. Author Reply: Oh, indeed so, Periantari! Sam is, after all, now a Prince of the West, and Pippin has a far better appreciation for that status than does his mother. | |

| Okay...I *really* need to hit my bed, but I couldn't do that before giving a reply to this. The look on Eglantine's face after Pippin told her that...I'm betting a combination of shock, confusion and worry all rolled into one. She may be the first to be told this, but she won't be the last and it's won't take too long for the other Hobbits to realize the Gardener who left The Shire no longer exists. Even though those titles won't mean anything to most Hobbits, the fact Sam has outgrown his former station will. I hope Pippin was able to get to those Walnut Pastries before anyone else grabbed em. I've been known to give a rather wicked look at Family Reunions myself when someone grabs the last piece of Pecan Pie before I can get there myself, so Eglantine has my sympathy there. ;oD Wonderful little story m'dear and a Belated 4th of July to you and all of my US Friends here and all of US Members!!! :o) I've been rather busy this past week due to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's (William and Kate) First Royal Tour here in Canada and am now playing catch up around here. CPAC, our Politics channel here in Canada, has never been watched as much in this house as it's been this week and probally won't be again until the next Royal Visit takes place...LOL!!! Really enjoyed this one M'dear. :o) Author Reply: Oh, thanks so very much, Tigger. I suspect you are quite accurate about the expression on Eglantine's face as Pippin tries to explain the current state of affairs, not that I think Frodo ever allowed his favorite cousins to lord it over Sam to begin with. And with you it's pecan pie? With me it's brownies! And it goes to show just how unaware I am--I live not at all far from the Canadian border, but was totally unaware that the newlyweds had crossed the Atlantic! Shame on me! Heh! Hope your Dominion Day was a good deal of fun, particularly with such guests! | |

It will take Eglantine and many other hobbits (gentry or not) a very long time to understand that Sam is an important person now and highly esteemed by the free peoples, including the new King. Some of them will never understand, I fear. To Frodo Sam was never only his gardener, but the best friend he ever had! Author Reply: Oh, am so glad you think so, too, Andrea. | Pippin knows his place, doesn't he? A far shot from teasing/telling Sam to fix his breakfast and get the bath water hot on the way to Crickhollow. :) And he knows Sam's which the Shire folk may eventually come to understand when the gardener is the Mayor.
