Eomer fled, did he? Which did he flee the more--the idea of himself wearing a woman's gown, or himself caught in the bonds of matrimony? We wants to know, we doesss, gollum! Heh! Author Reply: I'm not sure if Eomer himself knows! *snicker*

You've got me. My mind is reeling, wondering how many of the cast are going to show up in skirts in the morning. I also wonder if the REAL Khandis, the ones that stayed in the tents in that old story, are female? Amazons, to be specific, like the two Sam & Frodo were almost discovered by at the Gates (movie version)? So in MY mindscape, quivering with laughter: the hidden Amazons are going to be delighted with the elaborate joke, revealing how the men of Gondor cherish and obey their women. Discovering it's all the result of a bet on a fight where the woman soldier trounced the man would only make it better. Finally (I get sillier as the night goes on here) the Khandis (hmm, pronounced 'Candace, the hereditary name of the Queen?) will reveal herself and only parlay with the women! Don't worry about me. I expect I'm completely wrong, of course. You are writing the story, not me - and I really really look forward to wantching the antics unfold! Author Reply: Those were supposed to be Amazons? So far as I could tell all the times I saw the films, they were just men in guyliner. At any rate, if I were using that as a basis for an Amazon culture, surely someone in Gondor's past would have run into these woman-warriors--after all, the main way they've encountered Khand in the past has been in battle. The Khandis is the simply what the Gondorians would translate as "king," which is how they refer to him in the few texts they have--a title, not a name, and it only belongs to the chief ruler of Khand. (I suppose I could have gone for a different organization of society, but way back in Western Civilization the east is generally associated with despotism [good or bad] of some sort. I can't imagine that Sauron's influence would have allowed for much variation, either.) Anyway, I loved reading your speculations! I hope you'll stay tuned and see how it all turns out!
