More Things in Heaven and Earth  by Branwyn 6 Review(s)

So, someone is attempting to do things within the cistern system, eh? And Irmo is trying to let Faramir know, apparently. So, we have both Boromir and the Lord of Dreams seeking to advise Faramir of a threat to the capital.

As for where Eowyn was before they married, we are told that initially she returned to Rohan with her brother until the Rohirrim returned to fetch Theoden's body back to Edoras for burial, and that she and Faramir were properly handfasted during the burial-kingmaking feast. Was the handfasting merely the formal announcement of their engagement or the wedding itself? In my-verse it was the wedding itself, although I've seen others write it other ways.

Author Reply: I can't yes or no to any of that. :D

My understanding is that they were betrothed, not wed, after Theoden's burial. Tolkien says they were "trothplighted" which means to enter into a betrothal. I've seen references to a marriage date of 3020, but I don't know the source.

Thanks so much for reviewing!

I like the mutual cation between the Haradrim and Hirluin (and Farmair to some degree I guess). It would take time for them to trust each other after years of war.

The dream was chilling. Hopefully a warning and not a prophesy.

I think I know what was bothering me about no mention of Aragorn in the last chapter. Boromir knew, at the time of his death, that Aragorn intended to claim kingship in Gondor. He would know that his father would not be very happy with that, but he must also have known that Faramir would not be so hostile. Would he not at least wonder whether Aragorn's claim had been accepted, since he knew his father died?

I'm not trying to make trouble, or saying you have to change anything, it is just bothering me.

Author Reply: Thanks so much for commenting! Regarding the Haradrim, it doesn't help that although many of them were decent people who were misled and abused by Sauron, there probably were some truly evil Haradrim who were worthy of distrust.
In the next chapter, Eldahil and Boromir talk about Aragorn (though not a lot since it's a subject both of them want to avoid, though for different reasons--Boromir is still ashamed of his actions at Amon Hen, and Eldahil is unsure of Boromir's reaction to the return of the King).
Thanks again for reviewing!

Looks like Hirluin is still taking good care of Faramir, or trying to! Loved the bit with his trading angry looks at Arnuzir's nephew. It will take time for old hostilities to ease.

Loved the glimpse of Faramir's daily life as the Steward. I would guess we will eventually see a Faramir/Boromir + Eldahil & Hirluin reunion. The plot is thickening; and what is happening with the pipes and water systems, or what will happen?

More soon, I hope.

Author Reply: Yes, Hirluin is still watching over Faramir, or as much as Faramir will let him. It will be difficult for both peoples to put aside the past. They have been enemies for their entire lives.

I love imagining Faramir finally able to do peaceful and constructive work. It must have been such a joy for him. The reunion of brothers and friends has been posted! (Two chapters in one week--unheard of! But now I have to do my continuing education credits for the year, so the next one won't be up until around New Years).

Thanks so much for reviewing! (And please let me know if those dogs are all wrong, lol.)

I really liked this glimpse of Faramir at work. The calm before the storm, so to speak. And the bits about Éowyn were interesting as well.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I imagine that he and Denethor were both excellent administrators; Boromir maybe less so, lol--not due to lack of intellect but due to lack of interest. Yes, the storm is coming. :)

An evil dream, indeed, and probably very prophetic. Hopefully, with Boromir there, they will be able to divert disaster while the King is away. Eagerly looking forward to the next chapter, Branwyn.

Author Reply: Well, Faramir (and Boromir) have had prophetic dreams in the past. Whether evil will be averted--we will see! :)

Oh! I like how you put the dreams together. As Boromir received a dream calling him forth, Faramir now suffers through a disquieting dream.

Lovely.

Author Reply: Thanks so much for noticing that! I always thought it was funny how (in the books) Faramir had the prophetic dream about Imladris three times, but apparently Denethor didn't pay much heed because it was only Faramir having the dream. The Valar finally said, "Oh, fer crying out loud!" and sent the dream to Boromir instead. THEN Denethor took notice.
