Thank you for suggesting this story to me, and helping me to discover it. It was indeed an eye-opener. I never thought about the friendship of Fingon and Maedhros from the perspective of their wives. That was a really perceptive story and I like the way you portrayed Merilinde. If I were in her shoes it would indeed be very hard for me to accept that I would always be second to my husband's best friend. I doubt I would be as accepting and forgiving, and as wise, as she is. But then again, I was not raised in the court of the High King. Not even close. Thanks again for a superb story. Author Reply: I'm afraid Meril's acceptance and forgiveness will fade considerably by the end of the War of Wrath, and that won't change while Fingon dwells in Mandos. I'm very glad that you enjoyed this little ficlet.

Love this short glimpse into the relationship between Maedhros and Fingon. Merilindë certainly is quite the elf. I love your characterization fo Maitimo and Merilindë, but especially Merilindë. So many times, and I have been guilty of this, the fandom constructs one dimensional maidens, but Merilindë is anything but. And have accomplished this in one chapter. There are not enough Fingon stories for my taste in the fandom so anything I can read about him I devour, though it took me a while to get to this one. Author Reply: Thank you, Fades. :) It's nice to hear word from you after so long. Merilindë has actually been constructed for my other story, "Elvenhome", and will play a significant role in the sequel, should I ever find the time and energy to write it. She's grown on me quite a lot.

This is a wonderfully crafted piece of back story, excellently written, as I have come to expect from you. I love the fact that you give substance to Meril and logically expand any relationship between her, her husband and his otorno. Author Reply: Thank you, although I must admit that I was very lucky with this one. The stroy simply came to me and demanded to be written. I wish it would happen more frequently. ;) Thanks for the encouragement, it means a great deal to me.

Excellent story with outstanding character interaction, Soledad! I liked the character of Merilinde very much; and the peace she made with Fingon at the end was a nice touch. Now you've got me wondering about her fate, and the fates of her two sons... What do the words haryon and inwir mean? Author Reply: You can learn everything about Merilindë and her sons (and daughters) if you decide to brave "Elvenhome", although I know that it would be a gargantuan task. :) The Inwir are the members of the royal Clan among the Vanyar, meaning Ingwë and his kinfolk. Merilindë is his great-granddaughter. Haryon means "heir", according to the very knowledgeable Fiondil; something akin crown prince. Thank you for reading and reviewing. It is much appreciated.

Oh, this was so very painful... I find it really interesting that everything is revolving around Findecáno, and yet he doesn't appear in this story at all. And how everyone is - as your Glorfindel so aptly puts it - consumed with 'the arrogance of the Finweions'. And yet it's all so complex, too; I never thought, before, what a... rivalry there would be between Maitimo and Findecáno's wife, but there would be, of course, given how very close they are... It does a lot of explain Merilindë's motives in 'Elvenhome', as well. Also, I have to say how much I liked Nolofinwë in this - I always fall into the trap of, well, underestimating him, viewing him as the 'sane' one, at least compared to Fëanor. But I can really see this Nolofinwë facing Morgoth in single combat, you showed how is capable of such fell moods very well. Sorry for the essay! But I really enjoyed reading this, thank you for sharing it! :) (I'm the same anon who's been commenting on your recent updates, by the way!) Author Reply: Never mind the essay, I love to interact with my readers, especially with such nice and supportive ones. ;) As for Nolofinwe, yes, he's easily overlooked, but we must not forget that he was also Finwe's regent and the High King of the Noldor in exile, aside from facing Morgoth, which was more an act of despair than anything else. He is one impressive Elf, which is why I stick with Silmarillion canon, where Gil-galad is his grandson.

Wow. This is really a fantastic story. I admire the characterization you wrote here. And just two things. There's a sentence "If you did not turn away from you before..." Shouldn't it be "If he [Fingon] did not turn away from you before..."? And later, there is "Are you know?" I am a little confused here... Apart from that, I'll just repeat - great story! Author Reply: Yes, of course you are right. These things happen if one doesn't have a beta. Thanks for spotting the mistakes - I'll have them corrected in a moment. I'm glad you liked the story otherwise. Thanks for taking the time to comment. :)
