| Bless Fatty. His story was one of the saddest, to me. Author Reply: Thank you so, Agape. Fatty had a terrible time during the Time of Troubles, and paid his dues as much as did those who went out of the Shire, I've always felt. Certainly he ought to have stood up to his mother! | |

| “But he left the Shire!” And that's all that most hobbits would care about, I suspect. Freddy has acquired great wisdom and insight, although he no doubt had a great deal of both from the beginning. This is a wonderful conversation. Author Reply: I know. A "proper" Hobbit is predictable, after all. If only they had made note of just how responsible Frodo was, perhaps they'd have realized he was BEING predictably responsible in deciding to take the Ring away so as to draw the evil he foresaw away from those he cared about. And I do think that Freddy matured fairly quickly once he realized danger the Shire was facing. Thanks so very much, Shirebound! | |

| What a great confrontation! I see that you also see Rosamunda as rather shallow and status conscious. Poor Freddy, having to put up with all that so soon after being in the Lockholes. And Rosamunda just can't quite understand why things can't just go back to how they used to be. | |
