| Interesting curse and advice. The E of A says Elendil was 7'10". I've always envisioned Aragorn as quite tall -- and I know he didn't have to be as tall as Elendil to wear his armor -- but it's difficult to imagine Aragorn well over 7' ... difficult for me, anyway. Is there any canonical reason to believe Aragorn wore Elendil's armor? Well, regardless of exactly how tall he was and whether or not he could or did wear Elendil's armor: Even if the rest of the Dúnedain were quite tall, even if the Rohirrim were taller than all other Men except the Dúnedain -- Aragorn must have been so much taller than all the other Men that he really, really, really stuck out from everyone else. Everywhere he went. Always. Author Reply: I even saw one note somewhere, I think possibly in one of the Letters, that Elendil was close to eight feet or taller, and that this was the source of the title he bore. Aragorn was described as quite tall, which I found to be rather disappointing in the movies--to a point. Of course, Frodo, too, was supposed to be tall in accordance with Hobbit standards--"taller than some, and fairer than most." So I tend to imagine Frodo of having approached that four foot standard for the upper range of Hobbit height, and Aragorn at being around or slightly past seven feet himself. Certainly I have indicated that they were often hard put to accommodate Aragorn, and he found himself rejoicing to find that the King's bed had actually been designed for someone approaching the august height of the Sea Kings, and thus comfortable for himself as he'd not found true for quite some time. No, there's no canonical reason to think that Aragorn wore Elendil's armor, but it was one touch from the films I've always liked, and wanted to play with. And, if we're looking at his armor, then why not his sword as well, eh? The reunited kingdom deserved one who could metaphorically speaking fill Elendil's own shoes--or in this case, his armor, after all! Heh! | |
