| Very good! Kalimac and Banazir, Merry and Sam! And perfectly described. If Merry and Sam had been twin brothers, Merry would have been saved from a lot of trouble. This is also true for Frodo and Sam. But definitely NOT for Merry and Pippin ;-) Author Reply: I've always thought that Merry and Sam were very much alike in a lot of ways, though Merry was a little more volatile. So it was fun to play with the idea of how it might have gone if they were twin brothers! If Merry and Sam had been twin brothers, Merry would have been saved from a lot of trouble. This is also true for Frodo and Sam. But definitely NOT for Merry and Pippin ;-) I daresay you are right...although Pippin might have been in less trouble if he'd had Sam as well as Merry watching out for him. | |

| I found it fascinating to observe my children's development when they were little - with twins it must be doubly fascinating! Author Reply: I think it must be! I Googled some articles on twins, and was surprised by how often they do some things at the same time, especially physical things such as needing changing! | |

| Kali and Ban, hmm? I recognized those names as soon as I saw them in the chapter title. :) Interesting that Ban was thought to be *more* clever than Kali, as Banazir/Samwise was called 'Halfwise' and thought to be less clever than his 'betters'. (I wonder how 'Panthael' translates into Hobbitish, as Samwise is 'Perhael'? Hrm...) Anyway, Merry and Sam as twin brothers...heh! I like it! Although I find it funny that Pip is the oldest brother here, lol! :) In case you're interested (and I'm sure you are) it's hard to do this without a birthyear for Briar Rose, but I'll just make 0 the 'year' Tuk and Adamanta had Briar Rose... 0 - Briar Rose's birth. She has blue eyes (like movie!Frodo, heh :) ) and dark hair. 3 - Briar Rose becomes a faunt. Raz is born. This is probably around the time Briar Rose follows Tuk about, receiving trinkets from him to keep. 5 - Adamanta "Addie" is born. 6/7 - Around this time, Kali and Ban are born. 7 - Raz burns his fingers, wheedling biscuits from his gammer and ending up with an upset stomach. 8 - Addie is learning to talk and sing. 15 - The Wood-elf Galasgil comes to the village and makes a set of shepherd's pipes for Addie. He teaches her, as well as her brothers and sisters to read and write. 16/17 - Around now, Galasgil departs, much to everyone's (but especially Addie's) dismay. (More to come with more chapters/clarifications, Dreamflower! *grin*) Kaylee! Author Reply: Ban was thought to be more clever because he got in less trouble, LOL! I've always had the notion that in very many ways Sam and Merry are much alike in their personalities-- so I thought it would be fun to see what the dynamic would have been if they were twin brothers! I like your timeline. I have not set an exact year for Tuk and Adamanta's meeting, but I am thinking it was probably within the first century of the Second Age, but sometime during the last quarter of that century. And I believe that Briar Rose was born in the third year of their marriage. | |

| What a treat getting to hear about Adamanta's brood. They certainly kept her busy! How very wise of Kali to learn to listen to Ban. I'm sure that kept him out of all sorts of trouble he would have otherwise gotten into. Author Reply: Well, I think it was a good idea for Kali to listen to his brother. Author Reply: I am quite sure that you are right about that. Even millenia later you can see Adamanta's combination of pride and exasperation as she speaks of them, LOL! | |
