Hello Obelia (Medusa), Gandalf is here! I know I should comment on the other 4 chapters first, but I'm so thrilled to see Gandalf!! And my wee Sam introducing himself to a Wizard by falling on his cart! An old Man trying to steal him...so funny! Well done to Frodo for taming what must surely have felt like a great wild beast. What a brave lad - but then, we knew that about him already. I could have cheerfully throttled that old codger Largo Bracegirdle for swindling the Gaffer. What a nasty piece of work he is. It was quite sad to see Hamson depart Hobbiton, but at least Sam got to learn his letters out of it - although the mere thought of that blustering conman Largo makes me want to screech (which means you portrayed him exceedingly well...) On to the next 5... Maureen :)

A most wonderful introduction to Gandalf, and indeed his appearance is given most properly. Love the horse's name and the reason for her skittishness. One note--a king reigns, but one uses reins for guiding horses. Homonyms here.

Lovely first meeting for Gandalf and Frodo and Sam! I love it that Sam thought his horse was an oliphaunt. But I was surprised that Frodo didn't guess from Gandalf's appearance who he was!

lol, what a way to meet Gandalf! It would seem that hobbits were falling from the sky right into his cart! How very brave of Frodo to grab onto the reins of the horse, being a hobbits and all it would be even more daunting! I wondered when you would insert Gandalf in this tail! so glad to see him ;) Looking forward to more, thank you lots!
