LOL! Poor Calembel is going to have some explaining to do. ;-) Author Reply: Yep, poor guy! And really it wasn't his fault!

The ban of Men for the Shire is something I am still of two minds about, even after years. On the one hand, it is a good idea to protect the Hobbits better that way. On the other hand, I like the idea of them working closer together, like they are now. The Hobbits should not always have to go to Annuminas to meet Men, I'd like the Men to be able to visit with their Hobbit friends as well. Though there's no easy solution to that, I guess. Limited access for at least a selected number of them may be the only way to go, at least for now. How that would work out over centuries, who can say? Aragorn doesn't have the easiest task in dealing with the two miscreants, poor guy. It's hard to find a good punishment for them. *grin* Not Calembel's best idea to have a drink with Hobbits. But then, no one warned him, obviously. He'll be horribly hungover next morning – and probably a lot of other people as well. Author Reply: Personally, I think that the Edict was not one of Tolkien's better ideas, but he gave it to us, so we have to work with it, or go AU (which I have from time to time, but not in my main Shire 'verse). OTOH, we are simply told of the Ban existing, not of how it worked or what the legalities of it were. So I managed to build in a loophole or two in my version of it. He'll find something appropriate, never fear. No, drinking with hobbits is a risky business-- though in this circumstance, it was not totally the hobbits' fault-- it was after all, the other people in the inn who kept buying the drinks!

It is never wise to drink with hobbits or dwarves. LOL I loved Aragorn's thoughts that his wait for his true love had been worth it too. This is still lovely. I will be very interested to hear what Aragorn does decide to do with the prisoners. Tough question. Author Reply: This is true! Poor Calembel did not have a clue, but to be fair, he could not have gotten out of it politely, LOL! I think that now that it's all over, he can feel a great sense of accomplishment and relief-- and he knows that his true love is the greatest reward of all. He's definitely got some ideas. I am trying to get to that chapter soon!

Poor Calmbel, if he only knew. LOL! Hope his wife isn't too hard on him, poor guy. An interesting discussion with the king. I'm glad Mosco is beginning to shine. He felt so useless earlier. I'm sure he'll be a great asset to the king. I hope Aragorn is able to come up with suitable punishments for the two hobbits. It has to be very difficult for him, with his love and admiration of hobbits, to have to deal with these two, but I'm sure he'll come up with a just solution. Author Reply: She won't be too hard on him, I don't think, not with hobbits to intercede for him! I had always planned for Mosco to be involved in the building of the new Annuminas. It just took me a while to figure out how that was going to come about. Yes; even though he knows very well that not all hobbits are as honorable and good as the ones he knew best, his heart finds it hard to believe-- so having these two bad apples thrust at him is uncomfortable. Also, he knows that in spite of everything, Clodio is close kin to Pippin. Still, he's a very wise King and will find an excellent solution, I assure you!

Soon enough the room was spinning around him, and finally Calembel gave up... "Uh-oh," said Freddy, as he saw Calembel's head hit the table with a thud. Berilac looked at him with a surprised expression. "You would think that such big people could hold their ale better." Mosco shook his head. "How will we get him home? And do any of you know how to get back to the guesthouse from here?" Oh dear. They do have a problem, don't they? ROTFLOL!!! Poor man just doesn't know hobbits enough to know taking them to an inn usually ends up like this. :oD I was so delighted a couple of weeks ago to see this back up on the front page and have loved seeing how our friends from the Shire have been getting on in Minas Tirith. Poor Viola though...I hope Poppy realizes her distraction isn't entirely due to her and Beri's courting. Well, a wee bit, but that part of it is also due to everything she told Beri after that first day visiting the Houses. It *would* be overwhelming to her. Combine that w/the size of everything and...*I* would be overwhelmed if it was me in her place. I sometimes get the feeling Poppy's just so focused on learning new healing methods, she tends to forget that Viola isn't as confident or....I guess "seasoned" is the word I'm looking for. If that makes any sense. I love how Mosco has found his purpose and reason for coming along. If there's one thing hobbits know, other than ale, food and pipeweed, is how to construct smials and hobbit houses. I'm looking forward to seeing him grow in confidence as he starts his new role. And I knew Aragorn would come up w/something that would work as a proper and fitting punishment for those two fools!! I can't wait to learn what he and his Chamberlain come up w/. I also have a feeling that Dago will feel it not only beneath him, but also ill treatment at the hands of Men whatever it is after his meeting w/Beri and Freddy. Clodio OTOH, has now realized just what it was his jealouzy and greed led him to. Too late sadly, but at least I think he will realize his punishment is deserved for what he did to the Shire. At least I hope so. Can't wait to read the next installment and I really hope at some point we see Poppy and Viola have a bit of an informal meeting, like tea or something, w/Aragorn and Arwen. While Poppy's interogating Aragorn, perhaps Arwen could have a chat w/Viola? I just think Viola really needs someone in Minas Tirith outside of the hobbits to realize just how overwhelming the White City is to someone new. Who better than the new Queen? Anyway...I'm just thinking out loud and if I'm throwing a monkey into the already plotted out plan for the story, then just ignore the babbling I'm doing. :o) It's so wonderful to see this back up and going again. Can't wait to see the next part. Especially to see how Freddy and the rest of them get out of this mess. :oD Author Reply: Well, poor Calembel knows now to pace himself with hobbits! We will definitely be seeing more of Viola's thoughts and feelings. You are throwing no monkey wrenches at all! I am very glad to be working on it again. At least for the foreseeable future I plan to be updating this on Wednesdays. (Monday for "Eleventy-One" and Tue./Thur. for "Ancestress". And as soon as this one gets to a certain point, I will be adding "Cado's Year" to my schedule. But I can't yet, because "Cado" would have spoilers for this one.)

Good to see that Aragorn is thinking about how to mete out justice properly, as well as considering his prisoners' health and abilities - not that I expected any less from him! I LOL'ed for a long time at the line about forty years of courtship being the longest any of their kinsmen had needed to go through - luckily no one else was here to be disturbed by it! *grin* And might I just add in, poor Calembel? I wonder what his wife will say...lol... One more thing...I absolutely LOVE hobbit songs! Is "Nob O' The Lea" written out in its entirety somewhere? I'm sure I should know, but unfortunately I have a headache this morning - overslept and took my anticonvulsant nearly two hours late, and that didn't do me any favors *facepalm* I'm sure Miss Dora would be heartily cross - so I think now I'll finish this review and have a bit of Nutella and toast for elevenses before I try to get some more rest. (It would be different if I'd slept *well*. I didn't. Nightmares. :( Ick.) I'll be up in time for luncheon, I'm sure...lol, tell Miss Dora she doesn't have to worry about my eating habits! ~.^ Anyway, enough rambling...toast and Nutella...*shares with Dreamflower* Hugs, Kaylee! Author Reply: It really is funny to think of someone being engaged for forty years, LOL! Well, I suppose you will find out what she says next week! "Nob O' the Lea" was originally written for a Marigold's Challenge in I think 2004. I don't know why but I don't think I posted it separately here on SoA; however I did use it in its entirety in "The Life of a Bard." ((hugs)) hope you feel better soon, dear! I'm feeling a bit wobbly myself this afternoon.

Oh, dear--it does appear that one husband is unconscionably late for dinner now, and it is a joy to know that the Hobbits can outdrink the Men of the King's court! Heh! And Aragorn's idea of asking the Chamberlain for advice on needed jobs is perfect! Author Reply: I think only Dwarves can out-drink hobbits! LOL! Originally I was going to have Faramir at that meeting-- seemed only natural-- until I remembered that I had sent him off to Ithilien after the welcoming feast! I had a bit of rewriting to do! But the Chamberlain should have a good idea on what needs doing in the Citadel and its environs.

"My brother will insist on a long betrothal for his only daughter!" "If it does not last forty years, it will not be the longest betrothal in the family!" It really is wonderful that he can joke about that now. Calembel felt like a mastiff surrounded by a pack of cheerful terriers *grins* Author Reply: Yes-- it's easy to joke now that he has the reward for his patience! *grins back* I have to say, I was particularly pleased with that simile. Thanks sweetie!

Oh, poor Calembel. XD How WILL they get him back is a good question indeed. And how will they explain it to his wife, heh heh. Whispy Author Reply: They do have quite a dilemma, don't they? *grin*

Somehow, I knew Calembel was in for quite an evening. Do let us know his wife's reaction, which I hope is quite forgiving. Poor guy really could not help it. Delightful chapter, thank you. Author Reply: Poor guy really could not help it. He had no idea what an evening out with hobbits would entail, LOL! And yes, you will be seeing his wife's reaction next week!
