| Well, Frodo was patient and polite for a very long time. Respect! But in the end he couldn't bear it any longer which is very understandable! However, the best of all was Merry's last remark to the man ;-) Author Reply: There were a few times my husband considered purchasing a tavern, although he always ended up thinking better of it, thank heavens. I can think of few things that I find more unsettling than having to deal with conversations with drunks, and particularly those whose topics of conversation are boring to begin with. And I'm SO glad you enjoyed Merry's parting comment! That was the comment that came into my imagination and demanded a scene to give it a context! Thanks so very much, Andrea! | |

| LOL! Just when it appears he needs rescuing, Frodo proves his mettle. Once again. Delightful! Love the comparison to the S.-B.s and the voice cold enough to frost a glass. (And how dare the Man tap Frodo on the head! Makes me grind my teeth!) Love the cousins' somewhat detached observations. If Frodo were in any real difficulty, you know they'd jump in (and we know that Samwise would jump down a dragon's throat for Frodo, if Frodo would just give the nod), but until then they have no trouble standing a little apart and making pleasant observations as if they're just passing the time of day... Poor Frodo, having to dress up, and then having been raised with such good manners as cause him to suffer fools (if not gladly) for far too long a time... (We have not been around much this weekend. Are you in town?) Author Reply: Oh, yes, it's not been precisely the best day for Frodo, and particularly now with this one traipsing after him all over the hall and seeking to monopolize the conversation, getting more and more improper as his alcoholic intake increases. Am so glad this gave so many a giggle! Heh! | |

This one began gnawing at me yesterday morning as I was driving home, then getting on me worse while I headed to the doctor's. I had no choice but to write and post it this morning! Heh! | |
