| *laughs* Oh, Dora, Dora, Dora...dear Miss Dora is such a wonderfully delightful Hobbitess. I'm glad she was there for Frodo, he needed a maternal figure in Hobbiton as well as in Buckland. And isn't it just like her to surreptitiously read The Book! I wonder whether Bilbo ever let her get the rest of the story! I'm sure I've read it before, but I enjoyed reading this again! | Well, I would suspect that dwarves know about decorum, but that their definition differs very much from Dora's ;-) Aunt Dora is perfect in this little story. I wonder how much of the story she already had read before Bilbo arrived. Obviously, old Gandalf did not leave an impression as negative as Thorin and Company. Author Reply: I so agree, Andrea! Heh! We know that the Dwarves, for all the teasing in their song, still didn't damage the plates or blunt the forks and knives, so I suspect they had better manners than they were showing at the time. And I loved depicting Dora in this tale. I'm not certain just how far she did get, but obviously she made it about to the point where Bilbo is despairing that his plates and flatware will survived their use by the Dwarves! Heh! And I strongly suspect that this was enough to distract her from property damage to the front door to Bag End. | |

| I'm glad that Frodo is feeling better! With all the flu going around, this is a timely story. Dora's in trouble now, isn't she. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: I had a bad bout of stomach flu last week myself, and will definitely be carrying my inhaler with me to try to head off some of the worse symptoms if the other hits. Having watched several I've loved fight off pneumonia, I know how wonderful it is when the lungs can work properly again. I'm not certain just how much trouble Dora's in, but the Dwarves of Erebor had best be glad that she's not in a position to march in and put a flea in their ear about Proper Deportment as a Guest in Someone Else's Home! | |

| I enjoyed this so much! Loving, attentive care for Frodo, the infamous mash brew, and especially Bilbo having to defend his precious memoirs before he was ready to share them. Aunt Dora is just perfect here. Author Reply: I'm so glad you did enjoy this, Shirebound. Looking at that period when in my-verse Frodo was recovering from pneumonia has been rather fun, seeing how Dora's presence managed to involve Frodo and Bilbo. Heh! And it is hard to let others read what we aren't ready to share as yet. | |

| Oh my! Dwarves and decorum? **snicker** It's always nice to see Aunt Dora. And of course Bilbo and Frodo. But what happened about Ponto's mash brew? Did Frodo get a taste? Did Dora find out? Was the teapot really a casualty of the thirteen dwarves' visit? If it was made for Men, it must have been difficult for hobbits to pour -- or did Belladonna use it for flower arrangements -- or maybe as a punch bowl -- or did it have pride of place on a sideboard or a corner table? Why did Isumbras choose such a gift? I'm sure that teapot could tell a few tales of its own. And -- really, you've left several more questions unanswered here! The frogspawn in Dora's bath; whether Frodo got any apple fritters; Bell Gamgee's illness; how much of the story Aunt Dora was able to read before Bilbo's return; what Aunt Dora had to say about Gandalf; who designed the cover of Bilbo's red book; all the ways Aunt Dora had been getting on Bilbo's nerves while helping care for Frodo; whether or not Aunt Dora had met Balin when he visited Bilbo in 2949 ... and last but not least, exactly how dwarves might explain to hobbits what proper dwarven decorum consisted of.... Author Reply: Well, leaving those questions allows one to continue filling in gaps, of course! Heh! Ponto's mash brew came from a story I read some years ago, I suspect on FF.n, in which everyone got fairly ripped on such stuff, so I found I had to include it somewhere in one of my tales. And I suspect one day Frodo will get a taste, but I doubt it will be this day. And just what dwarven decorum might consist of Gimli and Dorlin haven't told me as yet! Heh! Thanks so, eiluj! | |

| Two weeks ago I would also have been coughing from laughing so hard. Great little gap-filler as usual! Author Reply: I've not had the latest version of the flu to make the rounds as yet, although I'm certain I will before all is said and done. Glad you weren't reduced to gasping from laughter--I now tend to develop asthmatic symptoms after having a good case of any respiratory infection, so have to carry my inhaler at such times. I'm so glad you enjoyed this! Thanks so very much! | |
