From Wilderness to Cities White  by Larner 5 Review(s)

I enjoyed reading about these ponies, especially as I saw a lovely pony called Badger recently.

Author Reply: I'm not certain why in my mind Merry was the one most taken with raising ponies, perhaps because he'd taken care to have those ponies in the nearby field ready for them to ride out of the Shire when it was needful. But I think that he and his uncle shared that love for the creatures. I do hope that Badger is well loved! Thanks so very much!

Merry is really lucky to have an uncle like Mac. What he told Mac he could (and would) never have told his parents!

I'm quite sure that this conversation also had a healing effect and produced a wonderful project that will occupy Merry's time for many years to come.

Author Reply: We need to trust others enough to tell our stories in order to heal as often as not. And I do think that Mac was probably equally close to Frodo and Merry, and fully willing to allow him to speak. And what better project for Merry to get involved in? Thanks so, Andrea!

I'm glad that someone else is open to hearing what went on out there. (I'm not giving up reading fic for Lent as usual. I've become quite addicted to Pinterest, yes, my precious, I have, so giving that up instead.)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I think that Merry's family truly wishes to understand what these that they love have been through. They have to see the differences in Merry and Pippin are more than just the unexpected physical growth, and how could they miss seeing the changes in Frodo from lighthearted to such solemnity?

(And I'm giving up chocolate as usual--the one thing I keep coming back to once Lent is over!)

Many greetings! It's good to see how Merry's love of ponies and horses is helping to heal him from the Quest. Watching the ponies running in the sunlight and talking with Mac is something that all of the Fellowship would have smiled at and enjoyed seeing! This vignette reminded me of my grandfather; he loved horses and when I learned to ride we would talk about them while he was gardening. Thank you for bringing back those summer afternoons to me! :)

Author Reply: I'm so glad that good memories have come from this, Teresa. And, yes, this would help Merry loosen up at least some, and to speak out some of the pain and fear and so open himself to more healing. The war is now a part of him and his identity, but he is able to reaccept himself as a member of his family and their group hopes and plans once more.

It's wonderful to get updates on all the ponies! And the fact that mention of Frodo's disappearance in Bree might have reached Buckland is a wonderful detail.

Author Reply: I indicated in Second Mum that such word reached the Shire, and I'm glad that you like that fact! Thanks so, Shirebound!
