Ivory outpaced ebony as Asfaloth streaked along the last lap of the Road Great image! I like it very much. And what a contrast! It seems that Asfaloth still has a large amount of energy available and can't wait to fool them more. Author Reply: Hello Andrea, I'm glad you like that line in particular. Initially I thought it might seem a bit too pretentious, but the contrast between the shining purity of Asfaloth and the corrupted steeds of the Riders' won out in the end. I do feel really sorry for the wraiths' horses, though - those once-magnificent beauties should be grazing safely on the lush plains of Rohan, not carrying the foulness of Mordor on their backs. Poor wee horses! Thanks for R & R-ing, M ;)

And well he did! Bless the Elf horse, bearing such an important rider! Author Reply: Hello Larner, a precious burden indeed! And a very blessed horse - his best pal was the very dishy Glorfindel ... THanks for R & R-ing, M ;)

harness bells rang in wild defiance of screeching Riders I like your imagery. You say so much with so few words! Author Reply: Hello shirebound, thanks very much. That particular line gave me problems, because I wanted to write 'melodious defiance' (in contrast to the unearthly screeches of the Nine). But in the book, they're described at that point as being 'wild and shrill', and to use melodious when they were clearly anything but (at that point) might've seemed like downplaying the gravity of the situation too much. *shrugs* Still, I'm glad the alternative worked as well for you as it did! Thanks for R & R-ing, M ;)

Ah, yes, Asfaloth! Well drawn, especially his determination and defiance. Author Reply: Hello Lindelea, he is a remarkable steed, isn't he! Just wish PJ had had Glorfindel riding him in the films ... *sigh* Thanks for R & R-ing, M ;)
