| Poor Sam! They don't realise he's just as hurt and confused as Frodo. Gandalf and Aragorn are really bad at this. Don't they know that ratio doesn't cure everything and they just need to there for him, maybe apologize (even if it's not /really/ their fault). I hope they will realise that he's gone before he gets too far. | |

| Oh, this is not good, this is not good at all. Not the glorious event of seeing another chapter so soon - my cup runneth over and how delightful is that - but the worst of all cliffhangers so far. Love the words of Legolas that Frodo will find joy in Sam again. He shall I hope but whoa, some very stormy seas ahead as if things were not bad enough already. Neither hobbit is in his right mind. Aragorn is right, of course, about Frodo being in way over his head in trying to deal with the horrific pain that seeing Sam reminds him of. Essentially he was raped over and over in having his will taken from him and doesn't yet understand he was not responsible. And Sam's pain is for Frodo and for himself and all they have lost and believe they will never have again. You are right, as I realized even before reading this, that this will not be a quick kiss and make up as you said. The hurt is deeper but I hope they get to that point even if they have to argue more than once. Whatever Sam is planning is certainly going to help things though. Dear me. The cost of war and what it does to the heart and soul is beyond measure. I was thinking earlier today of the words of Into The West - 'what are these tears upon your face' but also 'fears will pass away, safe in my arms' - I hope they come to that point. | So, he intends to kill himself and take himself out of the equation and the situation, does he? Silly Hobbit! Death is for those who know the end beyond all expectations, not for those who still have much to learn and be and do! I wonder which one will save him from his own despair? (BTW--your birthday story is just below this one!) Author Reply: Hello Larner, Death is for those who know the end beyond all expectations ... - that was so very Gandalf (with a hint of Galadriel) that I had to smile! ... not for those who have still much to learn and be and do! - that was so very Bilbo, that I had to smile even wider. My cheeks are now killing me, so thanks a lot! BTW, I read the beautiful story you dedicated to me, among others, for my/our birthday/s, and it filled me with joy. Seriously, no one has ever dedicated a fic to me before, so that was the sweetest gift you could have given me! And the story itself ... simply breathtaking. My heart ached for poor Maglor, rejoiced that he found Russandol, and almost burst with pride at the gracious, easy welcome afforded him by Arwen. Simply beautiful. So why did I not leave this as a review on the fic itself? Because every time - and I mean every time I try to review a story onsite of late, I simply keep getting this strange clicking noise, and an icon appears that looks like small burst of flame warding me off. Seriously, I cannot review any fics onsite. I used to be able to, many moons ago, but not now, and I don't know why. It's incredibly frustrating. | Excellent stuff! And it is very, very, believable too - I can only feel that Sam is absolutely right, in so much of this chapter. Author Reply: Hello curiouswombat, I'm really pleased you enjoyed the chapter, and sympathised so much with Sam's pov. Thing is, what he says does make perfect sense (even if he needs to work on his volume control). If certain people had only taken the time to explain certain things a bit more clearly, instead of farting about trying to act so enigmatically and all-knowing, then a lot of pain could have been avoided.
