Finally got a moment to read this wonderful little vignette. Glorfindel is so wise and just the right person to convince Aragorn that he can do what is needful. Beautiful, Larner. Loved the bit about the roses. I doubt that was what Elrond had in mind when he wanted them to be deadheaded. LOL! Author Reply: I loved finding a way in which Glorfindel and Aragorn might have interacted at that moment. I'm certain he'd wish to reinforce with this young Man everything that he'd been told by his foster father, and that he was certain that Aragorn would grow into his role as the proper heir to Isildur. I was remembering not only my children's childhood but my own in the bit about the roses--I remember my mother so carefully holding in her temper as she found something I COULD properly decapitate with my wooden sword! Oh, we ALL made wooden swords and spears when we were growing up in the wilds of Pierce County! Heh! Thanks so!

Yes, child, I do believe that you can achieve this—if you can believe in yourself as we have all of your life so far. Great! I can understand why this statement made all of Aragorn's doubts disappear. For it is the assurance that Elrond and Glorfindel believe in him and that they will always be at his side!

I love most how much a father Elrond was to his foster son. And that this Aragorn, the real one, does not doubt himself and what he was made to do. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Aragorn was so carefully nurtured and prepared for his place in the world, after all! He has doubts, perhaps, but they are not those of the PJ films, of course. He needs reassurance, and I suspect all within Imladris were prepared to offer their encouragement and support as they could offer it to help him find his feet in his newly granted roles!

The coming of age of Aragorn beautifully stated. (Those poor roses.) Author Reply: Oh, thank you so, Tari! (And I'm glad he got redirected to the ragweed and goldenrod instead, too! Heh!)

Oh.... wonderful! I can't begin to respond, in the few stolen moments of the morning. So I'll just hit a couple of highlights... I love Elrond's re-directing the sword training from roses to ragweed. (grin) And the pictures you drew of Estel's upbringing and Elrond's tender care, and Glorfindel's recounting of past, present, and future (for some reason I think of his clear foreseeing of the Witch King's end, many years earlier), and the blooming of hope at the end. And you awakened in me a hunger to see Aragorn's re-introduction to his people. Well done! Author Reply: I find myself itching to do my own take on Aragorn finding his place amongst the northern Dunedain, and then remember, hey, you have three stories you have SWORN to finish first! Get cracking! I remember my own mother redirecting each of us to "killing" weeds rather than the flowers in the garden, and can so imagine Aragorn having to have the same redirection when a small child. And I'm certain Glorfindel's foresight was in action here as it had been at the battle of Fornost. Now, to get back to Stirring Rings, which I'm actually working on at the moment! Heh!

This was just lovely. I love the way Glorfindel inspires Aragorn. We know he will be all that the great Elf lord foresees. Author Reply: I just suspected that at that moment Aragorn needed what he might see as independent validation of what his Ada had just told him, and who better than Glorfindel to offer it? Heh! Thank you so, Linda!

That's a wonderful conversation. I'm sure it was no coincidence that Glorfindel was at hand at that very crucial moment. Author Reply: I also believe that Glorfindel was there on purpose, intending to help anchor the young Man as he faced the implications of his real identity for the first time. Thank you so, Shirebound!
