| I have been trying very hard to keep my 'favorites' list for each character to a minimum of four, but you have made this impossible for Pippen. He is one who really comes into his own on the quest and finds things within himself, of which, he had only an inkling. Introductions, Ahead (I especially like this one. It shows Pippens perseverance), Without, Discard, Hue, Unbidden (perhaps one of my very favorite paragraphs in 'Return of the King' is when Pippen first sees Faramir), Casualties and immigrate. Author Reply: I'm SO glad you liked the Pippin chapter. This was definitely the hardest to write because I've never really understood Pippin's character. I just can't seem to wrap my head around it. "Ahead" was the prompt that seemed to pull it together for me and made writing the rest of his chapter possible, so I'm thrilled you liked that one. "Discard" is one of my other favorites for that same reason. It helped me make sense of Pippin, so I'm gratified it makes sense to people reading it. | Oh my goodness! I can't possibly pick a favorite, because I think this set is your best set yet--you totally capture Pippin's bouyance, yet his determination and loyalty, his ability to live in the moment and yet to plan ahead. These are just perfectly Pip! Author Reply: You have NO idea how good it is to hear you say that you enjoyed Pippin's chapter. He was such a pain to write because I never could quite nail down his personality. To me, he seemed too light-hearted and not poignant enough. But that's Pippin. His poignancy is in the fact that he can face the world and maintain that light-heartedness. It's just tough to get my head around and tough to write in such a short span of words. That said, though, MANY thanks to you, whom I revere as one of the most capable hobbit authors out there. Your input on Pippin absolutely made my day! | |

| My favorite in this one is "Sliding," in which his theory is disproved! Alas, poor Pippin! And I love "Slicing" as well--I found it inspiring! Author Reply: A pox upon that treacherous ale... Still, I give Pippin points for being able to think on his feet, even if his original thought kept him on his feet for a few more excuses. ;) And I absolutely love the moment when Gandalf finds himself so torn between helping Faramir and helping everyone on the Pelennor. Since Pippin made that moment possible, I figure it only fair he get to have it in his prompts. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks for the review! | |

| I love the idea that Pippin really swore his loyalty to Faramir, not Denethor (I never thought of that before), and that he and Merry had grown in every way while the Shire tried to shrink again into obscurity, but my favorite part is, "when forced to choose between discarding a brooch or discarding hope, Pippin lets the leaf fall." Author Reply: In my own head canon, Pippin initially swore his loyalty to Boromir and accepted Denethor as a proxy because Boromir wasn't around anymore. Not that Pippin consciously thought about all this, but in my mind, that's where his heart was. Denethor was just a little out of Pippin's reach to truly earn his loyalty. He was too wise, too cunning, too shrewd, and too mired in grief and despair. Faramir, though, was close enough to both Boromir and Aragorn to be accessible, and when he showed up, Pippin's loyalty transferred to him. At least, that's how I see it. Others are free to disagree. Anyway, MANY thanks for the review! And as for letting the leaf fall, that was my second favorite prompt from this series. So glad you liked it! | |

| Ah, Pippin, Pippin, Pippin. *shakes head* "Ahead" was very good and really, an excellent lesson for life, to keep going no matter what mistakes or disasters occur. And in spite of the seriousness of the subject matter, "Reject" had me laughing out loud. Loved the imagery you evoke in "Sliced", and as usual, the last prompt is very poignant. Can't wait to read about the rest of the Fellowship. Author Reply: "Ahead" was my attempt to pull a common theme into all the prompts, because Pippin seems to create more than his fair share of mistakes, but by the end, he's grown so much! "Reject" is my favorite. Pippin's thrown into such serious situations, but he comes out so light-hearted that it's hard not to laugh. Thank you so much for the review! | |
