A very interesting take on how Echthelion might have reacted to Thorongil's sudden departure. I'm so glad that Aragorn managed to get a letter to him explaining his actions. |

A missive that indeed would be treasured by the old Steward as you've indicated. Alas that Denethor's jealousy brought about Thorongil's decision to leave when and as he did, and so trouble Ecthelion. At least the old Man knows hope now! |

I enjoyed this very much! Loved the relationship you establish between Ecthelion and Thorongil, and his reasons for finally passing out of Gondor. |

the popularity that this victory has given me, would only increase the enmity of Lord Denethor towards me, an enmity which would set father against son and brother and against brother, thus weakening Gondor and strengthening our Enemy.
Aragorn came to such an incredibly humble and loving conclusion. It's nice to imagine that Ecthelion was comforted by such a letter, and died knowing that his beloved Gondor would someday be in such good hands. |
