Lovely plausible exchange between Imrahil and Denethor. I always thought that Denethor hadn't gone over as PJ showed him to be and that he did have a plan. I like your version of Denethor a lot more than PEter Jackson's. ANd the despair you show at the end with Faramir is heart-wrenching and true.

i always wonder how/why Denethor favored Boromir that much more. I liked this dialogue between Imrahil and Denethor- we hear the reason behind Denethor distrust and disdain towards the younger son.

I fully understand Denethor's grieving for Boromir, but his treatment of Faramir in this instant is hard for me to handle.

I think your characterizations of Imrahil, Denethor, and Faramir are all "spot on" as people say. I do believe that both on the strength of his being Denethor's highest ranking Vassal, and his sister's husband, that Imrahil would have become as close to Denethor as anyone could have. Yes, he would have loyally respected Denethor's authority, but he of all people would have dared to tell Denethor the hard things he needed to hear. And, Tolkien in the books described Faramir as being even more like his Father in personality than Boromir, whom their father loved for his boldness and prowess. In my own family, the child who was most like my husband in personality was the one who constantly argued with him all through high school!
