I like all of the ceremony. My favorite part is that Aragorn sent something special to get Pippin started out as the Thain. I love the idea that he selected the wine and sent it just for this event along with a note. Great idea! Author Reply: I couldn't leave the King out, now could I? His note will get read later and you know he's happy to have all his old friends in positions that will help the kingdom.

A very lovely chapter! I especially liked Eglantine passing on the title of "the Took". I, too, think that the "Lalia years" would have left an impact on the Tooks, and left a lot of widows wary of being tarred with the same brush if they sought to hang on to the family headship to which they were entitled. I do hope we get to see Strider's letter to Pippin--I am sure it is filled with love, encouragement and good advice. Author Reply: I have written some things that would explain just why Eglantine has a special dislike for all things Lalia related. I hope to post that story at some point. I think the Tooks would feel the sam about a widow holding the family headship as they feel about wheeled chairs. Yes. We will see Strider's letter. Merry just wants to find a time to give it to Pippin when he knows that Pippin can read it and ponder it without interruption. Thanks for the review.

That's a beautifully conceived and written ceremony. I especially appreciated the references to "another step on the path to healing" and "Today we take that step into the future that Paladin was afraid to take.” And what a true reminder that one Age has ended and another begun, to adjust the oath to show that the King has at last returned. Author Reply: Thanks, Shirebound. I'm glad the ceremony worked. I was kind of nervouse about that. Fortunately for me, I had an unplanned day off work and was able to put a little more thought and effort into it than I might have had I written it at another time. As it was, I still forgot the witnesses and the red ink until the other night when I was reading someone else's stories and saw something about the witnessing of documents. I had run back and add seven Tooks to the story. Coming up with names was a challenge. Thanks for the review and glad you liked the idea of a new age making it's way into Shire traditions.

At last the Shire has the kind of Thain it ought to have had years earlier! Lovely! And love the way the chapter ends! Author Reply: Thanks so much, Larner. I almost put the ball in a chapter by itself but thought it wasn't long enough to make a true chapter and it sounds like I made the right choice. I'm hoping I can keep true to my vision of Pippin as more wise than many think, compassionate and with an appreciation of his homeland and how it fits into a larger world. Thank again for reading and reviewing.

Awwww. I do love your Pippin and Diamond together. I hope this story will feature many little scenes like this one. Interesting ceremony. The exchange of rings, and the relative weight of the rings, hits home. It sounds just like Strider to have anticipated this day, and prepared for it! Too tired to say more. Thank you for a lovely bedtime chapter. Author Reply: Glad to supply a bedtime story for you. :) I figured that as the heir, Pippin had to a signet of some sort but that the one the Thain actually wore was more elaborate and would therefore weigh more. It also was a nice simble of how much responsibility he's taking on. I'm loving my Pip and Di more every day. I'm getting to really play with them and their relationship a lot lately because while I'm working on this story, I'm also writing the siquel to "To Have of Have Not" and watching them grow is great fun. Thanks so much for the review. I'm glad that, even tired, you were willing to post something. :)
