Thain Peregrin I: the First Days  by Garnet Took 4 Review(s)

I love the manner in which these two communicate. Lack of communication causes the worst problems in relationships as people seek to second-guess one another and botch things up royally.

Author Reply: I love these two also. I don't have any idea where I've got the model for their relationship. Maybe it's my ideal couple, I really don't know, but I love them together.

The course of love isn't perfect for them. Just read "To Have or Have Not" and you'll see how they near fall apart but I'm working on curing their woes in a story that I intend to get back to work on as soon as this one's done. I so enjoy writing and reading Pip and Di in love. :)

Thanks for the review.

Oh, I am sure that Diamond will like her surprise!

*grin* I love the image of wheeling that money off in a wheelbarrow! LOL!

Author Reply: I know that if I were her, I'd like it. Mmhm. :)

I suddenly realized that they had a goodly sum of money there and no way to get it to where it needed to be. I thought there'd most likely be a wheelbarrow nearby so I went with it. Glad you liked the image. It is rather funny to think about. I wonder what people thought if they saw all those flour sacks being wheeled down the hall.

Thanks for reviewing.

Pippin makes it obvious that Diamond is the most important part of his life. Lovely! (From the first part of the chapter, where he makes a point of keeping her informed, to the last few lines, it's very clear that she is his treasure.)

Ah, Regi is so practical. All he needed was the right kind of leadership. Wheelbarrow and sacks! *snorfle*

I like the way Pippin eats humble pie and apologises to his mother, and also the reference to Denethor. What a nightmare it must have been. And yes, it's easy to ignore and explain away signs in loved ones that we don't want to see.

Continuing to enjoy this one. Looking forward to more. The meeting with the sheep farmers ought to be interesting, but at least Pippin seems to be well prepared.

Author Reply: Pippin really needs Diamond to complete him and the fact that he nearly loses her in one of my stories set a few years after thos one is heartbreaking. I'm going to work to complete that series as soon as I finish this story. :)

Regi is a true hobbit: well grounded and practical. He's a good ballance to Pippin.

I really think Pippin is familiar with the taste of humble pie. He's had to eat it on more than one occasion in his life. He would never mean to hurt his mum. He's suddenly put it all together that his father was very sick and he sees how much like what happened to Denethor it is, even without any supernatural involvement.

He's ready for that meeting. I just hope I'm ready to write it. That's going to be the hardest part of the little that's left to write on this story.

Thanks for sticking with me through this one. I really appreciate the reviews.

And I thought *my* job was complicated. The number of things Pippin is juggling all at once is impressive.

This was one of the three room in the Great Smials that were kept locked when no one was in them. The other two were the Thain’s office and the healers’ stillroom and herbal storage.

This is so well thought out! And the small reference to Denethor is a wonderful detail.

Author Reply: Thanks.

Yeah, he's got a lot on his plate at the moment but it's going to get easier soon. :)

I thought about that bit with the locked doors today at work. I was doing something rather mindless that was taking way too long and was thinking about the story and not the job and came up with that.

I just couldn't pass up the Denethor idea. The things that happened to Pippin were good preparations for other events in life.

Thanks for sticking with this and reviewing.
