Judging Mud Pies  by Larner 8 Review(s)
PSWReviewed Chapter: 1 on 9/2/2016
This was such a fun story! I loved it. :-) Just the thing little Hobnits would do after seeing all the goodies at the fair. And I'm always excited to find recipes at the end of anything. I would not have thought to put mayo in cake! Will have to give it a try. Thanks for writing!

Author Reply: One of my college roommates introduced me to mayonnaise chocolate cake--if I recall correctly, the recipe was on the Hershey's tin at the time.

About once a year there will be a recipe fiction challenge for the LOTR Community, and this seemed appropriate for the prompts I received that year. Dreamflower delights in recipe fics!

This reminds of all those times I used to make mudpies and porridge and all the other wonderful things that a child's imagination can concoct. How nice to have an Uncle like Bilbo who would take me seriously like that.

Thanks for a nice story. Brings back so many memories.

Author Reply: I know. We used to play at bakeries when I was a child, making even mud doughnuts! Heh! Yes, I, too, have memories of such play, and it was fun to find a way to work it into the life of the Shire. Thanks so!

Author Reply: (And thanks for the dual comments!)

Sweet story! Love wee Frodo. :) And the proper faux seriousness of the judges. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: How it all must have amused both Bilbo and Drogo to play along. And even as a small child Frodo was probably already quite artistic in his endeavors, I'd think. Thanks so, Antane!

Very nice! Hamfast played along perfectly with Bilbo and Drogo. Maybe, in the end he was a little too overenthusiastic ;-) But I'm quite sure his sons and Frodo loved it!

Author Reply: Oh, I'm certain that they were most glad to have his apparent approval of their playing. Thanks so, Andrea!

Cute story, and that meatloaf recipe sounds right tasty. Too bad I decided to go back to being vegetarian! :D

Author Reply: I agree, Armariel--too bad you've given up meat once more! One thing I don't think I'll be able to do, actually. Glad you enjoyed the story!

The judges did an excellent job. They complimented everyone rather than picking one as the best. That would have been unfair to the little ones. LOL

Author Reply: This was one contest that wasn't about competition, after all. After all, Frodo and Half are about the equivalents of four-year-olds, so having one be "best" isn't something they're going to appreciate anyway. Thanks so, Tari!

Thanks for a nice story. Brings back so many memories.

Author Reply: Oh, yes, I can so readily imagine Bilbo encouraging the use of imagination in his younger relatives. And I remember doing similar things myself! Heh! Glad we both enjoyed such activities.

I quite enjoyed this story. When I was smaller, I loved playing with mud--my brother and I would play "Bakery" when the weather would let us. Thank you!

Author Reply: My sister and I would do the same. With our older brother we tended to play Tarzan and a good deal of Buck Rogers and similar things, while by myself I was often found playing Doctor Doolittle. Heh! So glad it brought back pleasant memories.
