| Just grazing a bit through this collection, and enjoying it. Love seeing Paladin and Esmeralda as small children. Adalgrim is most perceptive, and Wikie most forceful as a Mum. Delightful look at the farm. | |

With Drogo visiting Buckland in order to avoid her, and Bilbo gone and unable to forbid a wedding for those not of age, Lotho thought it well to push for a wedding before Bilbo could come back. His father Longo had his own reasons, of course.) Uhh--you mean Otho, right? Author Reply: Yep. Thanks for that! Sometimes Hobbit names can be almost as confusing as First Age Elves! :) | |

| Ooh, that cheese sounds delicious. I might have to look out some not ultra-pasteurized milk and give it a try. (Raw milk is too expensive to experiment on...) Chop knows his cousin all too well -- he came very close to guessing something about the secret. Alas, poor Bilbo. I hadn't thought about that reason for the hasty marriage, but it makes sense. Author Reply: It really is good! Most store milk is simply pasteurized, but it's easy enough to check; the milk we carry at Braums is not organic or anything, but Mr. Braum raises his own food for his own dairy herd, and they are RGBH-free and antibiotic free. You really ought to look into that book, too! You and your girls would have fun making cheese! Yes, Chop does know Bilbo well. | A lovely evening. Dear Bilbo, and his stories and his plans to keep the Ring secret. And love the recipe as well. Author Reply: Yes, well it must have been a hard one to keep for all those years. I think it would probably have been a real relief when he finally confided in Frodo. OTOH, not knowing about the Ring and Bilbo's ability to become invisible could have been what contributed to his "mad" reputation; without knowing the whole story, the parts about escaping from goblins, fighting spiders and hiding in a cavern full of Elves must have seemed delusional to his adult friends and neighbors. If you've ever wanted to try cheese-making, that's a great recipe to start with. It's not hard, and it's delicious! | |

| "I'm surprised she lets you get away with calling her 'Winkie'." I'm surprised, too :-) Chop really hit the mark here. Everything Bilbo left out has to do with what he actually had in his pocket. But this will remain a secret for a rather long time ... Author Reply: I think that was the price of giving up being called "Chop"...he'd only give up his nickname if she'd take one from him. But NO ONE else uses it. And he'll never tell. Exactly. You hit the nail right on the head. | |

| This is so neat! I don't blame Bilbo for choosing to spend some time with his Took relatives at this point, not after the harsh treatment he just recently received from his Baggins relatives after his return home. At least, the children enjoy hearing about his adventures, as does Drogo himself. Author Reply: Well, Adalgrim and his family at any rate. But he's still avoiding the Great Smials and Lalia unless he absolutely has to go there for Head of Family business. And from this point on he'll be spending Yule in Buckland... | |
