Again, a wonderful way to introduce the major part of the Shire to maize. And loved the Gaffer realizing he needed to apologize.

Why am I not surprised that the "furrin" food comes from Buckland ;-) I think the Old Gaffer should really make a trip to Buckland to find out how they really live there. Frodo already showed him that Bucklanders are very good with growing maize. (P.S.: The German word for maize is "Mais". Very similar.)

Delightful! I suspect that the Gaffer will soon make himself into the local expert on ears 'n cobs. Author Reply: I would imagine so. I don't suppose that subsequent plots of corn will have to be tended solely by Frodo! 8^D

Frodo the gardener appears before Frodo Gardner :) Gotta love it and Bilbo's words to the Gaffer when he first notices what Frodo is doing. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Yep. Well, he kind of knew that's what Frodo would be doing, didn't he? I'm sure it forestalled the Gaffer's planned complaint!

Hurrah for Frodo! Children pay attention to the most wonderful things, don't they? I wonder how old he was when he watched the process in his old home? Delightful, from the birthday present, to the gaffer twisting his hat in his hands, and everything in between. Author Reply: Probably when he was quite young, maybe even before he lost his parents. But certainly once he became Saradoc's ward, he would have helped to do it, since Old Rory was a firm believer that no one is exempt from hard work. In my 'verse, Frodo has done all sorts of chores around Buckland whenever they needed all hands to help. I'm so glad you liked it!

Frodo certainly does a fine job! I wonder who taught him--Sam? Author Reply: Nope. In my 'verse, Brandybucks all pitch in during planting and harvest, even the Master's family. Frodo has weeded gardens, harvested apples, and certainly helped with various crops. Old Rory believes the best way to oversee someone else doing something is to know how to do it yourself. While Frodo's not going to usually be helping in the garden in Hobbiton, doesn't mean he doesn't know how. Sam would not know how to plant corn, since the Gaffer never did it. But he knows all about it NOW, LOL!
