Ah. You've added to this one since I left my thoughts on the Prologue. I have marked it for future reading. I've been working on scientific papers and a dissertation all day, and my eyes are tired. I should investigate screen readers to allow me to feed my fanfic habit after the day's work is done... I used to be able to swipe down on my phone and it would read me an entire chapter from the SoA site, but that function no longer seems to work the same way as it used to. Now, it merely highlights a paragraph at a time, which means I have to keep looking at the screen to get it to read to me, which rather defeats the whole purpose. (Got any free or low-cost screen-readers to recommend?) Author Reply: I know of screen readers for computers and laptops, but not for phones. I'll have to talk to some of my friends who are more up on current technology. I've been out of the classroom for too long.

How vicious and mean Lotho is. He'll get his come uppins some day. Author Reply: And that he did, Tari. That he did. Between Lotho and his allies the Shire was belittled and damaged badly--until the Travellers returned. Thanks so!

Looks like Lotho has found the perfect partner in crime. Author Reply: That he has! Heh! Thanks, Tari.

people were likely to accept its inclusion as typical Sackville-Baggins dismay that they weren’t likely to ever dwell in Bag End themselves What a perfidious plan! At first I had my doubts, but now I think that it really will work that way. It seems that Lotho found a fellow that day. What they have in common is the hate for Frodo Baggins. Author Reply: Oh, yes, Lotho has found a fellow indeed after all this time, with their joint hatred for Frodo bringing them together, and their desire to jointly put one over on the whole Shire keeping them in collusion together. Glad you can see how this idea that the SBs were only expressing frustration would in the end work to fulfill Lotho's designs! Thanks so, Andrea!

Lotho and Timono's personality shows clearly in this chapter. They don't seem to care if they bankrupt other hobbits, as long as they show their own cleverness and get their revenge. It really is clever to notice the problems in the contracts and realize how Frodo will one day leave the Shire. I just wish they would have put their brains to better use. And all this planning while Timono's father is dying. I'm a little confused as this chapter seems to have happened earlier than the previous one, unless the previous was the prologue and this starts the story. Author Reply: Yes, this one is actually set prior to the previous chapter, and the previous chapter was intended to be the prologue: but numbering on other sites but this doesn't account for prologues, too, so I'd thought to try to keep numbering consistent in all archives, but will amend this one. Lotho does know his detested cousin better than many others do, and both he and Timono indeed intend to get their revenge on everyone they feel has ever slighted them. I doubt many will truly mourn the passing of Tiercel Bracegirdle, but he certainly didn't deserve to have his son planning such perfidy on that day of all days, did he?
