Hi! Up until now this story is a delightful reading experience, and while it takes a bit of suspending with canon to imagine full fledged knightly rules and fiefdoms and a 15.th century tournament comlete with plate weaponry taking place in Forth Age Gondor, Middle Earth, once one accept this, you have all the caracters and personae deeply in character and the plot is developing well and excitingly. Well, actually, all the characters, save Gimli. I feel that you have him out of character here; I can not imagine Gimli of all people being the one petuantly intending to drive home and harken to human and elvish knightly customs and court protocoll (that, after all, has nothing to do with customs of the dwarves, anyway). And discussing Bandorbas shortcomings in manners for an esquire at lenght in front of the guests of honor - even as close friends as Aragorn and Faramir are - is, to my view, equally bad mannered and therefore unlikely. On another note, I regret that you have the evil dwarves that abused Bandy originally coming from the Iron Hills and Gimli complaing at length in front of outsiders (well, non-dwarves) about them here; the Iron Hills, after all, were allied to Erebor, and the slain former king of Erebor during the ringwar, Dain, came from there. I think having those dwarves being from Ered Luin would have worked better. I also can hardly imagine any group of dwarves cowing in fear from a single elf, even if it was Legolas, because of that elf merely gave them a good sclding. And on a final note, having Aragorn and Legolas discussing the new soon-to-build fleet in detail like this is all fine and well - but what would Legolas, wood Elf that he is, know of constructing a fleet and of constructing ships? save he has informed himself thouroughly by Cirdan because he prepares for building one himself already (and then, *that* in itself would be a frightening prospect to Aragorn, I think!). Otherwise, this story is great, and I enjoy it a lot! Thank you for this spirited attempt at bringing Arthurian chivalry to Gondor, and keep on writing! Greetings to you, Aislynn

Ah, explanations at last! This is most welcome. I can just see Legolas cutting those Dwarves down to size with a full out princely tirade--in Dwarvish invective, no less! Wonderful! I am, as always, impressed by your knowledge of medieval weaponry and custom. And I probably would have pushed Legolas to compete also, once I saw him in that shining armour. A friend of mine saw a bumper sticker--"forget knights in shining armour, I'd rather have Elves in tight leather!" Now we can have both! Hooray! Lovely touch, having Legolas know all those "ancestors" personally. I'm looking forward to seeing the next match. I am a bit worried about the reaction, though, if he wins the tournament. Doesn't seem like the mortals would exactly be thrilled. But he can't lose! I'm not suggesting that for a moment! Great job, as always. Lamiel Author Reply: Hoo! I want that bumper sticker! Though I saw a great one the other day: "Haldir Lives! I don't care what Peter Jackson says." Are you suggesting I stack the odds in Legolas' favor so he wins the tournament? Shame on you, Lamiel! We ought at least to give these poor mortals a chance. Thanks as always for your review! Le Rouret

Oh thank you for posting this....totally cheered me up after a horrible day....car accident and all. Poor little Bandy...So glad that Legolas found him....I can so imagine Legolas completely capitulating to his every wish!! Looking forward to the joust on the morrow... :) Do post it soon!!!! Thanks again.... Author Reply: Tinnuial, Car accident? I hope you're OK -- insurance can be a pain to work with (as can injuries). Let me know if everything's all right. Hope you like the next chapter! Not a joust, necessarily, but things are heating up now! Le Rouret

Legolas is such a sweetheart! I imagine he has a soft spot for hobbits and children and such, and I can vividly see him chewing out those awful Dwarves, though his proficiency with their language surprised me. They're probably fortunate he did not go so far as to deal them a sound birching with the flat of his poniard. ;) And he does have quite a winning personality. ~ Hmm, Thranduil feeling young again? ^_^ He probably could use a bit of a vacation now that the war is *finally* over. Legolas will just have to rely on his elven reflexes where his fencing is concerned and make dad proud. I hope Thranduil doesn't make a scene like *my* dad does when I'm awarded something. (cheering, whistling, etc.) ~ This whole story just gets better all the time! Author Reply: Coriel, Well, Thranduil will certainly make an appearance, but how do you know he'll have anything to cheer about? Just because Legolas is an Elf doesn't mean he'll win the tournament! ;-) I had assumed Gimli would have taught Legolas the more, *ahem*, colorful Dwarvish phrases; speaking from personal experience it's the stuff your language teachers DON'T want you to learn that you pick up fastest! (Go ahead, ask me to swear in French!) Thanks for the review! Le Rouret

So at least the reasons for Legolas' presence at the tournament is revealed as well as Bandy's backstory and a good deal of Legolas' own history. I was a bit surprised that Thranduil was not opposed to the idea of Legolas partaking in the tournament. But that's probably because I've read too much fanfiction were Thranduil is presented not really as a nice person. So I really enjoy the different character you present here. Another nice twist was Legolas' closeness to the folk of Dale and the way he honoured the fallen knights by adding them to his fake list of ancestors. But now that most of the mystery surrounding the Lasgalen of Dale is revealed, I am curious about how he will fare in the competition to come. He sure has to face some formidable opponents. Author Reply: Fliewatuet, What does that mean, anyway? I've also read a lot of fanfic in which Thranduil is portrayed in a, shall we say, less than complimentary light! Just because Orophir was a stubborn jackass doesn't necessarily mean his son was, too. I'd much rather think of Legolas being raised by kind and loving parents -- otherwise his personality would have been very different. Thank you for your reviews! This is fun!!!

I very much like your interaction among Legolas, Gimli and Bandy. There is a true cameraderie reflected there. Some nice language as well. I liked, among others, "if ever you feel the need to lift your spirits by some jest, remind yourself of how ridiculous I must have looked, prince of Elves though I am, missing each mark as we charged, or falling from Hatchet’s back, clattering to the ground like discarded scrap metal! " Author Reply: Orophins Dottir, Thank you for your review! I'm having a great time writing this. Hope you like the next chapter! Le Rouret
