Houseless  by PSW 8 Review(s)
someoneReviewed Chapter: 1 on 11/26/2015
At first, this story started as adventures usually do, but it quickly changed into something I've never seen before.

It is an interesting idea that Faramir virtually invited the elves to Ithilien. I've wondered how the elves and Gondorians were able to divide Ithilien, and this is a possible solution. It is also interesting to see a story with Faramir and Legolas as main characters, it's not something that you see often.

A houseless elf/other creature inside Legolas? I really didn't see that coming! How are they going to get rid of it?

Though I'm not convinced that Faramir in ROTK was as intimidated by the task of restoring the fertility of Ithilien as you have implied here, I am definitely intrigued by the story. Good tales of Legolas and Faramir, who must have had at the very least a friendly acquaintance, are hard to find. Post again soon, please.

Author Reply: Hello!

I had to go read the beginning of this chapter again after looking at your review. My intention actually wasn't to indicate intimidation (I really have always felt like Faramir would be someone who *wouldn't* be easily intimidated), but that he was just a bit overwhelmed by the scope and all the ideas flying around in his head -- too much at once, given that he doesn't have a lot of background in this type of thing. But, I can see where it could definitely be read the way you say ... Thanks so much for your comments! I may have to try to fiddle w that para a little ... :-)

I'm glad you're enjoying, thanks for reading!

well you can't just leave it there! My morbid curiosity is piqued, especially as I'm trying to figure out how you plan to get this thing out of Legolas while leaving him intact! (unless you intend this to be tragedy as well as horror...)

:)

I understand completely, though, your confusion on how this story came to you. I'm not a horror fan by any stretch, and yet several years ago, I found myself plotting out a horror story for the Magnificent 7 fandom. My roommate begged me to finish it, but that particular muse left me as quickly as it came--that, and I couldn't figure out how to kill the monster I had created (*grins*)

Author Reply: Ha! Not being able to get rid of it *does* create a problem, right? :-P

No, never fear. :-) This is not a tragedy (I'm even less likely to write that than horror), and there is a plan for getting rid of it.

Thanks for your comments!

this was exiting and terrifying! And its so good to see stories where Faramir appears. Hes one of my favouritecharacters😊A different twist with a wraith moving into Legolas. Yet he seems to be able to keep reasonably sane. You described so well the surroundings and the two men that I can see it all before my eyes. I actually thought of your story when I was out on one of my usual very long walks in a nearby forest. Indeed some places along that path is somewhat intimidating with old gnarled trees, old logs, some swamps and denseness. Its easy to spooke yourself there😂Luckily my hubby wa with me hahaha!I look forward to more!

Author Reply: Thanks for your comments! Yes, I like Faramir too, I think he's one of the most honorable characters in the story -- which of course it what Tolkien intended. I'm glad you like my descriptions -- and hopefully Legolas will be able to *stay* sane until they get this figured out ... :-P

I'm usually not very caught by stories that take place after the Ring War because I miss the tension that comes from knowing where all the canonical characters are heading. But this was interesting. It's deeply canonical and it's about a time I know pretty much nothing about. It makes sense that Faramir and Legolas become allies and friends in Ithilien. You also explain why Legolas leaves Mirkwood, which is otherwise kind of puzzling.

Author Reply: Thank you! I did try hard to keep it within canon ... had several books and web sites up to check against ... :-P I agree that the whole move of Legolas to Ithilien was not necessarily intuitive, and Tolkien didn't give us much of an explanation (as in, none at all, really) -- but I can totally see the two of them sitting around hatching this plot over dinner one evening ... :-)

Thanks for your comments!

Oh, I, too, have been attacked by one horror story in the midst of the night that had to be written out immediately. It took me until dawn, but I managed to do it in a one-chapter story, at least, and got it out of me. I still shudder when I read it again, which I don't do often.

Do get it out of you--you will feel better for launching it on its way and clearing your mind for other stories you prefer to write! It does sound intriguing so far!

Author Reply: Thanks for reviewing and for your comments! You're right -- probably best to just write it now than to have it sitting around half-finished nagging at me ... :-P

Lol, never ask my opinion PSW, for I swear I channel elves in giving answers.
Humm, Elves are also my favorite Tolkien characters, so "elf-owies" as I like to call them usually have me screaming "Nooooo" to my Ipad.

I enjoy your stories and this one is starting off great, lol, can you at least reassure me that my elf will be alright at the end???

Great reading Faramirs POV

Author Reply: Thank you! I love Faramir, and given all the different 'versions' of him running around, it's interesting to write from his POV and see how he turns out for me. And, I'm so happy you enjoy my stories, I have a lot of fun with writing them. :-)

Yes, I promise that at the end, your Elf will be 100% houseless spirit free ... ;-)

*shivers* Ooooh, that's scary indeed! I'd love for you to continue.

Faramir had, over the course of the evening, revealed his hopes, his goals, and his concerns regarding Ithilien. Discussion became ideas, ideas became planning, and by the end of the evening he had found himself standing with Legolas before the King, requesting permission for the Prince of Mirkwood to establish an Elven colony in the southern forests of Ithilien.

That's a marvelous progression, and explanation for Legolas making Ithilien his home.

Author Reply: Thank you! It's been sitting half-finished on my computer for a while, and suddenly kind of reached out and grabbed me again. I'm glad you like it -- if I'm venturing out of my comfort zone it's nice to know someone is actually reading it ... :-P
