Good for them! As an aspiring history major, it particularly irks me when people spite the past, or simply can't be bothered to honor or even remember it. It seems very unworthy to me. So, go for it, you two! |

This is a great beginning to your story. One of the very appealing aspects of the Lord of the Rings, to me anyway, is Tolkien's conceit that it was real history. You've taken that longing that I think we all feel, to go to Middle Earth and see where it all happened, and turned it into a story. Not 'modern people fall into middle earth', but hobbits that have almost forgotten their past. What a unique viewpoint. It's strange to think of Merry as a hero of ancient legends - we know him too well! Merry and Pippin's tombs are next to Aragorn's, and Frodo and Sam's orc-rags were preserved as relics of the quest - yet those are dry and dusty reminders. I wonder what they will find when they get to Gondor that can make the history come alive for them. I'll be looking forward to reading the next chapters. |
