| I begin to sympathize with Denethor for having to parent a kid of Faramir's imagination and persistence. We know how important both qualities will be in his development and maturity; and the young Faramir is well written here. Love the ending! Author Reply: For Faramir to be so like him but more willing to let his heart lead him must have been both wonderful and frightening. Am so glad you liked the ending--it makes me so happy! | I love Faramir's dreams here. I always wondered when Boromir and Denethor had their conversation about the thousand years. | That is very interesting! We have three people and three different opinions here: On the one hand Denethor who does not want anything to change. He is content with being steward, but only because of his belief that there will never be a king again. Then we have Boromir who comes to the conclusion that there is no living heir to the king and wants his father to be the new ruler (and then himself of course). And we have Faramir. Like Boromir he is not content with just waiting. But he had this dream about the Tree and the King and somehow he knows that it is true. With that attitude Faramir is the luckiest of all three! | Just like children -- that single-minded push toward an obvious, inconvenient conclusion, either ignoring or missing the warning signs that it's not at all what Ada wants to hear ... :-P Faramir's joy in the thought of the King come again is endearing and refreshing. Even Boromir seems willing to dig for the truth -- though his reasons are very different. Denathor, though, has ever been proud and just doesn't want to hear it ... Very interesting conversation! Thanks for writing ... Author Reply: And thank you for the comments--I am so happy when it becomes apparent that others perceive precisely what I'd hoped to convey! Denethor doesn't want for life in Gondor to change from what it's been for the last millenium, after all. | I love Faramir's faith and hope - and it was well rewarded! His first sight of the king - the dream become flesh and looking into his eyes - is such a wonderful part in the tale. | And if perhaps a fruit of the tree lies in a hidden, protected place until it is time for it to begin to grow into a tree, perhaps there is such a place where the one who will be King lies hidden, too, so that he and the tree can come to Minas Tirith at the same time and the city and our nation will be restored What a perceptive and thoughtful lad. This is a nice gap filler. Author Reply: I've long suspected that Faramir always hoped one day for the kingdom of Gondor to be restored to its former glory, and if anyone should see a parallel between the hope for the White Tree to again grow in the courts of the King and the hope for that King to return, it would be him.
