| Your Gandalf is so true! Abrupt and brusque and yet so wise and hurt by Saruman's betrayal. I can see this conversation play out between Elrond and Gandalf. Elrond's fear that Aragorn had been taken and Gandalf's , "don't be daft" had me giggling at how right it was! Best wishes Author Reply: Thank you! I liked that exchange too ... | This story is so well-written and insightful, it makes me wonder why I've never wondered what this scene would be like. You do a brilliant job of portraying the many emotional nuances of the scene, as well capturing the intricacies of the relationship between Elrond and Gandalf. They both seem perfectly in character. I also really appreciate your ability to bring pathos and humour together all but seamlessly. You hit just the note I associate with Gandalf in the books: always wise, solemn at times, but rarely without a wry observation or witticism when the moment calls for a little dark comedy. I like how Elrond gets in on it too, however: "he had watched Mithrandir apply his irritability as an unashamed all-purpose tool" may be my new favourite sentence. Thanks so much! Author Reply: Thanks so much for your wonderful words. :-) Gandalf and Elrond are both such complex characters, and I really appreciate hearing that I managed to capture some of that. Gandalf in particular just fascinates me -- both intelligent and wise, temperamental and kind, focused and patient. And, of course, humorous -- one of my favorite traits of his... | Really like this gapfiller situation that really might've happened. Your Elrond and Gandalf are really in character of how they may have felt in this tension-filled time. We require your wisdom and your strength if we are to have any hope at all in these dark days. At the moment, I would not trust you to find your own room unaided.” The wizard hesitated, and Elrond shook his head furiously. “You will not gainsay me in this!” That is so true. | I really enjoyed this glimpse of Gandalf. It was a wonderful look at a real person with their thoughts and feelings instead of the normal "I'm above it all" image that we sometimes have of Gandalf. | What a wonderful conversation. This is a really nice gap filler. Curunír’s defection was indeed a grievous loss, yet Elrond could imagine far worse. Fewer than a handful of people existed without whom Elrond might doubt what small hope remained to them, and the white wizard was not among them. Interesting, and very perceptive.
