Poor hobbits! I can very well understand their discomfort. Two weeks ago I was bitten not by midges, but by a fly. It was a single fly, but it managed to bite me at least four times - in no more than ten minutes! It only stopped when I fled ;-) Author Reply: Insect bites can be so annoying, sometimes an itch is worse than pain!

And such pests they proved to be! Heh! Poor Hobbits--being undersized compared to Men they do make better targets for the midges. Author Reply: Exactly! Originally I had thought to do only the hobbits' POVs, but when I read that the sort of midge it was likely they encountered were low-swarming, I decided to add Aragorn's POV too!

That must be what it was like. And they were there for 2 days! I don't know how I would have handled it - I would have but not been any happier than the hobbits. This is one scene in the book I am glad I was there with them. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: I know. Sheer misery!

Those poor hobbits could certainly have used a can of insect repellent, couldn't they? I would hate to be plagued by midges! I find mosquitoes and gnats annoying enough, as it is. Author Reply: I'm sure if Sam had known they would have needed it, he'd have brought something to relieve the itch!
