Oh man, poor kid. I mean, he is just a kid at twelve, even if he is advanced. Such an awkward age, teetering on being independent but still clinging a bit to the security of those who watch over you and protect you. And the poor man. What he's doing isn't right but I don't think he's all there at the moment. SCARY for Estel though! Adults are supposed to be the rational ones and this man? Nope. He's quite demented at the moment. Estel handled it far more gracefully than I would have! Elrond's training, no doubt. ;) I love how he hears his mentors voices. And good for him at staying calm enough to do so! I'm hooking and moving on (one of the beauties of waiting until a story is fully posted!). Author Reply: Indeed...binge reading is one of the true pleasures of completed stories. :-) Yes, I was aiming right for that awkward in-between age -- twelve is hard, and Estel is no normal kid, on top of that... No one knows what to do right now, I think... Yay for intensive training, pretty much... Thanks so much for reading and for your comments!:-)

I thought you were probably setting us (or really Estel) up for some time with Ferrier! You did a nice job of showing how Estel gradually wakes up, feels physical sensations, and finally realizes what's happened. I like the voice of Glorfindel in his head, because it explains how this kid is so savvy. I also like that the "kidnapper" is sympathetic to some degree. Estel better hope the guy doesn't collapse completely because then he'll really have problems on his hands. The last little "Please, come find me" is touching. He's doing ok but he'd really, really like someone who loves him to come along now. Author Reply: Yes, he really, really would ... Estel at this age is tricky. I tend to think that he's more advanced than most kids his age would be, given his lifetime of one-on-one tutoring with a bunch of highly-trained and experienced Elves who are fully committed to seeing him not only stay alive but come out on top. That said, he's also twelve, scared, and (for the most part) alone. I'm sure that quite a few of his decisions in the foreseeable future will not necessarily end up being the best choice he could have made. As for Ferrier ... well, Estel's training with Elrond may be a good thing here too, but I suspect he's not nearly as far along in that and won't be able to do much more than slap a bandaid on it and yell for help, if it comes to it. We'll see ... Thanks for reading and commenting! :-)

Now, this I hadn't anticipated at all! Definitely a frightening situation for the youth, but one he ought to be able to deal with in the end. Author Reply: He'll definitely learn a lot in the attempt, anyway, even if he doesn't always get it all right ... ;-) Thanks for reading and commenting!

Estel took a long, deep breath. He was not home, and now he had to deal with what he had, not what he wished he had. Very wise indeed. I like the inner 'conversation' with Glorfindel. Hopefully this journey will turn out well for both Estel and Ferrier. Author Reply: Thanks for commenting! Yes, that's the hope, that this will turn out well for all. I truly wanted this to be a story with no 'bad guy', but only sympathetic characters from whom Estel might learn things differently than he would at home -- or things that he might not learn at all until he finally managed to make his way into the world of Men. Of course he may not see it that way at the time...but Aragorn is a naturally compassionate person and I don't think he would be able to help but extend it at any opportunity...

I'm really enjoying this, it's a bit different and nicely worked out. Wondering what adventures Estel will have before he's re-united with his family! Author Reply: Thank you! I really did want this to be a bit different, so I'm especially happy to hear you say that. :-) Hope you continue to enjoy!
