Wow. I just hit this because I wanted to look up what else you had written. Leaving aside the spectacular imagery you managed, you pretty much summed up one of the core truths of Christianity: a God who is always merciful. As a confessing member of a high Episcopalian church in the season of Lent as I write this...it hit hard and true and beautiful. I don't know if you intended that or not, or like that, but there is power there. Keep writing. Author Reply: Oh, I did very much intend it--at least, I hoped that's what would come through. :-) I'm so glad to hear that it spoke to you--especially during this holy season. Thanks so much for your kind words, and may God bless you in your Lenten journey and always.

Beautiful! This was an ending I have never considered. Well done! It makes me happy to think Maglor is at last forgiven and is allowed to go Home. Author Reply: Yes, me too. Mercy and redemption are so vital -- here and elsewhere... Thanks so much for reading and for your comments. :-)

Beautifully done. Grace was in all the Professor wrote, where mercy was sought. This fits. Author Reply: Yes, grace and mercy. So central, and necessary... Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

Ah, shiveringly perfect. I have quite a different ending for Maglor's banishment, but this works so very well! Love that Gandalf is allowed to bring the message to him. And love the song that Maglor offers at the end! Author Reply: Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it. I loved having Gandalf in it to -- once I realized that he was Maglor's messenger, all the rest just fell into place... Thanks for reading and commenting! :-)

Well, that certainly came out of left field! Perhaps it's my goofy sense of humour but I loved your "Stella" and "Starra" names; how appropriate for stars to come down to work as nurses! I find seeing these characters, Maglor and Mithrandir, through the eyes of Starry to be much like the chorus in the Greek plays; the explainer, the illustrator, the commenter and yes, in this case, our eyes to witness what these people look like, sound like and act like. Nice touch! Also there is such a deep sense of this being a morality play, with Maglor's penance and the "messenger" bringing forgiveness and a gift as well as an admonishment: "Sin no more" becomes "cease thy penance". It works. And your final thrust, with Maglor's voice rising as he scrubs also brought tears to my eyes. This was a well crafted short piece that packed a punch! Thank you! Author Reply: There's so much great stuff in left field! ;-) Thanks so much for your comments, I really enjoyed them. I hadn't thought to put an actual description to Starra's role in this story (besides narrator) -- but you are right, this is absolutely what she is. From the very beginning, it was clear that this story would have to be told from an outside perspective if it was going to be told at all (and when I did attempt to picture it from an inside POV, that lasted all of about ten seconds and was really obviously wrong). The outside POV was an interesting writing experience for me, one I haven't really done before -- but it allowed for a completely different look at the main characters and the situation in general, which was exactly what this scene needed ... That was a unique solution to this problem! I didn't see it coming, but Maglor could enjoy the new adventure beyond the circles of the world. He will now join Luthien, Elros and later also Arwen in the fate of humans. Such a hopeful story, thank you! Author Reply: Thank you! It was meant to be, so I'm happy that it comes across. :-) Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

I think you just broke my heart into a thousand shards (but nicely) Author Reply: At least it was nicely, anyway... ;-) Thanks so much for reading and commenting, I appreciate it!
