| Poor kid, being alternately fascinated and bored, realizing there are other children with whom he could play, but whom he'd most likely never see again, or not for so many years they'd most likely not recognize one another; losing his count.... He is continuing to learn, however, and is now seeing his ancestors' tower, even if it is but in ruins now. One day he will know this region so very well! I wonder if they do have prairie dogs in Eriador? I love the thought of seeing them along the way. Author Reply: It's definitely been a confusing and back-and-forth couple of weeks for him -- I'm sure his moods and patience are all over the place at this point. It will be good for him to get home and back to normal for a while. But yes, that was part of what I was thinking when I was writing -- someday he'll know this whole are like the back of his own hand. :-) I loved the prairie dog idea too -- as soon as it occurred to me, I was like, 'yep, they're totally going into this chapter' ... :-P Thanks so much as always for reading and commenting! | |

| See, I told Dorhaur he was wrong and his captain was a fool. It's totally believable that he'd be given some authority because of his family though, since the Dunedain use inherited rule. I loved Estel's enthusiasm in talking about the other boys he played with. There doesn't seem to be any way around that though. One of the fun things fanfic allows a writer to do is flash bits of canon in the story like inside jokes. So Estel thinks of walking everywhere, or maybe "striding". LOL And we get a glimpse of Amon Sul. Author Reply: Yes, I thought of you as I was writing that. Pretty much anyone who has a chance to spend any real time with the man ... Estel is of course all over the marble game -- he's a twelve year old who just learned a new game with a bunch of new friends (and throw in that the whole 'new friend' thing isn't common for him). I can't imagine that the adults in his life haven't thought of all he will be missing in order to be safe and regret his losses, even if there really is no better way. | Ah welcome back, I really missed this last week! I'm very much enjoying the different perspectives, and loved it was Dorhaur who knew what Estel was dying to talk about regarding Staddle. Still thinking (hoping!) Baradhald's behavior will blow up in his face... Author Reply: Thanks! I missed it too. :-) I figure, Dorhaur has kids close enough to that age that he's bound to be fairly attuned to most of the alternative motives they've got swirling around in those brains of theirs... It's a good thing Baradhald wasn't the one who stumbled across Estel, that's for sure. :-P Thanks as always for reading and for your comments! | |

| I love how you describe things, like "the untamed tangles of a wild new land". It's a long journey indeed, especially to a young boy. Author Reply: Yes ... I remember riding in the car when we were little. It was great for a while, but the longer it went on, the more the wheels just came off (figuratively speaking :-P).
