If you have to randomly show up somewhere out of the blue Rivendell would definitely be my first choice, although the lack of indoor plumbing would certainly give me pause. I like how Elrond tries to comfort the children and the Elves having no idea what basic modern things are for the children was fun. Thanks, atealgirl Author Reply: Yeah, there are definitely much worse places in Middle-earth where the children could have found themselves than in Rivendell! At least they will be safe and well taken care of there, the lack of indoor plumbing notwithstanding. =) K.G. Author Reply: We felt Rivendell would be the most useful setting for their first introduction to Middle-earth! DF

I'm always conflicted between fantasy books/movies and Christianity myself. Does God truly want me reading things like that and will reading it (supporting it by my views) lead other people into by drawn to magic & occult. Maybe writing it could as well but thats something youd have to pray about yourself. Author Reply: Well, don't forget that C.S. Lewis also wrote fantasy--The Chronicles of Narnia And he was a born-again Christian. J.R.R. Tolkien was a devout Catholic, and his writings reflected his beliefs, as you will discover if you ever decide to research him in-depth. I have no qualms, myself, about reading their stories or writing fanfiction about them.

Hahaha! I wonder if they’re in the SCA? A very practical reaction! Elrond proves himself "kind as summer" in his interactions with Lucy and Kaylee. I have the advantage over those who read the first two chapters as they were posted, in that I can see a whole string of chapter titles. Disney songs! What fun! Author Reply: Yep--Disney titles! =) Sorry it took me so long to reply to your review. We're getting so few of them that when a review does get posted, it's easy for me to miss it. Yeah, a very practical reaction, indeed! =) Ahd Elrond is certainly living up to his description, isn't he?

I love the reactions of the children to the Elves, Gandalf, and the Last Homely House, and likewise the Elves and Gandalf's reactions to them! Arwen's vision was very helpful, and her views on the children most insightful. I really love that Jennifer, Kaylee and Joey are staying in the twins' and Arwen's old nursery. The reactions of the kids to the lack of modernity makes me laugh but also has me sorry for them - and I love the SCA mention, being a member of the SCA myself! :) Author Reply: You are, huh? I didn't know that! I never even knew about the SCA until recent years. Yeah, Arwen will be a big help where the children are concerned. She already is, in fact. And everything is so strange and new to the children.

I enjoy learning the sanitary arrangements here. I once gave a lecture to a classroom of fifth graders on sanitation through the ages and the evolution of the toilet, which had them all chuckling. Author Reply: I'll bet it did! =) One thing's for sure: the children are going to have to get used to managing without toilet paper!
