From Wilderness to Cities White  by Larner 5 Review(s)
Galadriel GardnerReviewed Chapter: 67 on 4/16/2023
The phrase "a little mischief in a mean way" comes to mind. But really, the most shame is on Lobelia for not only raising such a monster, but condoning theft that's more than usually petty!

Oh, my. Lobelia and Lotho, at this point in the timeline, are the definition of petty and tacky.

Author Reply: Oh, that they were! Heh! Fun to imagine them at their most selfish.

At least people in need actually benefited from the thievery. *goes off humming looking for some thread to embroider my monogram on my small clothes!*

Author Reply: True, that. Dear Lobelia and Lotho--they grant me a good deal of fun writing about them.

Well, well... it was not so very clever to remove the embroidery!

Does Lobelia really believe that her stealing (and her son's) goes unnoticed?

I wonder what Beno does with this new bit of information? Apparently, he already shared it with someone ;-)

Author Reply: It must be a major embarrassment to have the likes of Lobelia and Lotho in the family. We know that Frodo was thinking he'd get the family together to deal with Lotho when he realized Lotho was naming himself "Chief" on his return, so he already thought of his S-B cousin as anything but an asset to the Bagginses.

Bad, bad Lotho and Lobelia! [shakes head] At least Frodo and Merry were able to put on their outer clothes long enough to get back to Bag End and put on some clean panties, as we would call them.

Author Reply: We know that as well as being generally unpleasant that Lobelia, at least, was a sneak thief. It's likely that Lotho, too, was most likely to have developed a penchant for helping himself to others' goods, and particularly if he was jealous and/or contemptuous of his victims. I suspect that Bilbo tended to have excesses of briefs and undervests made for Frodo due to the likelihood that Lotho and Ted Sandyman were likely to help themselves to what they could swipe from Frodo's clothes while he was swimming.

Thanks so!
