| I found it interesting how tricky something like cereal was to explain to the Elves and Hobbits. That was a very interesting discussion about the ambiguity of the way Satan fits into this world. Thanks, atealgirl Author Reply: "Ambiguity" is certainly correct! =) And it is indeed tricky attempting to explain dry cereal to a people who have never even heard of it. K.G. Author Reply: Modern cereal really is a strange concept, especially cereals aimed at children, in their funny shapes and sometimes colors. And the hobbits especially would find the idea of making grain into little dried squares or circles ridiculously time-consuming. Morgoth was clearly intended to be a Satan analogue, but he doesn't fit the exact description, so there is an ambiguity there. | |

| It's good to see that Gandalf was able to explain (as best he could, anyway) what the children can and can't say about God and Jesus. I'm glad he's able to help them. What errand, though, oh dear...I'm sure they'll be finding out. And whether Satan is Melkor or some lesser servant - clearly not Sauron, though - will take some working out. I love this story! Author Reply: Yeah, it's fortunate that he was able to help the McCloud children with that, isn't it? Yeah, really! In working this story out, it's hard to decide who exactly Satan is. We know, from reading the Bible, who he is and how he fell, but working him into Tolkien's mythology is a challenge! | |

| It's a lot for the kids to take in. I loved the conversation about trying to explain Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny to Elrond &Co. Author Reply: Yeah, I'll bet! =) Not to mention trying to explain our world's concepts of elves while they're at it. [g] | |

| I am glad they are given the chance to explore. Being one who raises dogs, I'm rather surprised that Lucy doesn't have to be taken out first thing before anyone else gets to the toilet. Heh! Author Reply: LOL! Dreamflower and I didn't think about that. =) Of course, since it would have been rather difficult to take her out on the grass right when she needed to go, arrangments would have to be made to set some kind of mat out for Lucy to do her business on while inside, but I'm assuming that at the kennels, she was taught to go outside. | |
