An Unexpected Adventure [IN HIATUS]  by KathyG 3 Review(s)

It seems kind of strange to me that Kaylee would not have been told stories, only read to. When I was young my mom sometimes told us stories of a kind but mischievous cat named Skitterdoo. Siggy having a baby tooth fall out when eating a pear is similar to when I had baby teeth fall out while eating a Hostess Ding-Dong, twice. The little gifts from Frodo and Bilbo helped cheer them. I'm glad Joey's monster mask came out at a time that it didn't cause too much trouble, and it was smart of Aragorn to take it from him.

Author Reply: Well, the adults who have been in charge of Kaylee aren't all that good at telling stories; it's not the common skill in our day that it was at one time.

So, you lost a baby tooth while eating a Hostess Ding-Dong, did you? That must have been an experience! =)

Joey has a mischievous streak, as became apparent during his stay in Rivendell, when he dressed as a ghost to attempt to scare Aragorn and Boromir. He likes to pull pranks on his sisters. He was initially going to use that monster mask to scare them, but now, he decided that it would be more fun to use it to scare the grown-ups. =) Fortunately, the adults quickly realized what was going on! Yes, it's just as well that Aragorn confiscated the mask. K.G.

I rejoice they got some joy for Yule. May they rejoice as they move into this new year--while they can.

Author Reply: "While they can" is right!

I *love* "The Very Hungry Caterpillar!" It was one of my favorites to read, or have read to me, when I was little.

Wouldn't it be great if Bilbo could translate it with Kaylee's help into Westron or even Sindarin? *big grin*

I was re-reading "A Mother's Work" the other day and just about collapsed laughing from this alternate POV of Belladonna's chapter! Heh! Poor lads, even Kaylee had more sense than them! (You know, if Kaylee loses any teeth during this story, will Bilbo reward her with a farthing? Random thought. :) It sounded like foreshadowing!)

I just reread "Yule in Hollin" and I see where everything fits in. It's lovely to have inserted the McCloud children into the events, and I especially like how Kevin helped bring food to the table, so to speak. (Not that there's much of a table to speak of, in the Wilds...) Oh, and Joey with his monster mask...my goodness. Little boys indeed, LOL! It just figures. *snickers* I wonder if such masks are already a thing in Middle-earth, and if they are, who'd be most likely to have them...*giggles*

I love it! Well done KathyG and Dreamflower! <3

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hmm--a translation of that story into Westron or Sindarin. Not a bad idea! =)

Hmm. Dreamflower and I will have to decide whether Kaylee loses her teeth while she's Middle-earth, and whether she gets any money as a result.

Well, you know little boys! Fond of mischief. And Joey does have a mischievous streak, as became evident while he was in Rivendell.

Glad you liked it! Thanks.
