| It saddens me to see the Elves's bewilderment at the sight of a child praying to Eru/God. It helps show the contrast of a more OT view of God with how Jesus has opened up the path to the Father. I always like how the constellations are the same in Middle Earth. It makes it feel more real. Interesting point about how even though Hobbits age slower they have more time to learn before becoming adults. Thanks, atealgirl Author Reply: Yes, as Tolkien set it up, Middle-earth is in a far distant pre-Christian era. Abraham apparently hasn't even been born yet! That God/Eru loves and cares about men, Elves, Dwarves, hobbits, etc., and wants to fellowship with them is something that none of them know anything about. Well, since Middle-earth is our own earth in an imaginary era far back in the distant past, it stands to reason that the surrounding universe would have the same constellations and galaxies. Not to mention the same solar system that Earth is part of! It makes sense that hobbits would learn so much more by the time they reach adulthood than regular humans do, since they take so much longer than us to do so. K.G. | |

| And so the Fellowship, including three McClouds, trek on toward Caradhras...*shivers* Ouch, I can just imagine how hard it'll be to pull Joey through that mess, and the older kids can't walk on snow like Legolas either... While Kaylee and Lucy stay safely back in the Last Homely House - a good place for them to be. :) I love that Arwen's giving Kaylee embroidery lessons! Kaylee's prayer is so sweet. You know, I'm ashamed to admit it but I'd kind of fallen out of the habit of praying. I guess call it a crisis of faith - anyway This story has touched my heart and opened me back up to wanting to again. I'm sure it confused the Elves that we mortals are allowed to speak so directly to Eru. I'm looking forward to what comes next for both journeys! Author Reply: Yeah, I'll bet it does confuse the Elves! And probably not just them, either. The McCloud children are blessed to be part of a Christian family; they're being taught in the way they should go. That is standing them in good stand now. Yeah, Caradhras is going to be rough! | |

| Isaiah is one of my favorite books, and I was glad to see it referenced here. I empathize with poor Joey, but see he is doing better night by night. Now--for the abortive journey up Caradhras! Author Reply: Yeah, really! And thankfully, Joey is stronger than he was when they started the journey. | |
