| Oh, beautifully done. I love the little details that somehow make the scene come into focus in my mind as I'm reading. I am suddenly reminded of all the birthday suppers Frodo had, one every year after Bilbo went away, where he toasted Bilbo's health even though it was one of the things that made him an oddity in the eyes of (most) other Shirefolk. It is easy to imagine him saying to Bilbo, "...this is something I've wanted to say to you for a long time..." Author Reply: Thank You! I've often thought that it was a rather cruel of Bilbo to raise Frodo as essentially his son and then abandon him as so as he turns the Hobbit equivalent of 18. Especially since Frodo had no other close family members and Merry and Pippin were young kids at the time. | |
