Chief, Boss, or Mayor  by Larner 6 Review(s)

I never get tired of your Sam, telling someone of the greatness of his Master Frodo!

Author Reply: Oh, dear, but when the computer froze the other day it posted an empty reply!

I sincerely doubt Sam would let ANYONE disparage Frodo in his hearing. And these children will do well with the correction to what they've heard grownups saying about the deputy Mayor, I think.

Thanks so, Barbara!

Oh! I love the gardener the very beginning... Guessing that it's Sam...
Loving the history lesson about the Bag End gardens. Reminds me of visiting Butchart Gardens in Victoria BC.
Oh! Sam's defense of his beloved master... and the boy's "Him's the gardener!"
Min’ster of Proto-whatsit (!) hahaha!
And names. All the names. Good thing poor Strider doesn't have to fill out government forms. He'd run out of blocks to put the letters in.
Ah. Mention of "mostly empty" Mordor makes me want to go back and read Jodancingtree's AU about Frodo and Radagast setting out to heal Mordor, if I'm remembering right.
Fascinating tour and explanation of the record keeping, and the family history is illuminating.
Oh, my! "the Inn" and the idea of returning surviving treasures that had been gathered - we really were writing on the same wavelength! I'm so glad I waited until I finished writing my mathom before I started to read this...
(And now I am enjoying pretending that Pearl's husband, mentioned here, is the same dashing hobbit I have known, a Hero of the Tookland though he had hardly a leg to stand upon...)
somethin’ as Lord Strider had made to embarrass the two of us. hahah! Very hobbity.
How interesting to contemplate the differences between Sauron, Saruman and Gandalf's "ending".
the scoured places in his soul refilled with joy This touches my heart.
And the ending is sweet, indeed.

Author Reply: In my-verse the return of stolen items was something that Frodo took very seriously, and that he did his best to see done. So far they've been able to return most items, other than rings, which Saruman took as his own portion, hoping against home that THE Ring should come to him in such a way. One day his cache will be found, I suppose....

I found that the great shape crowned with lightning bolts contrasted with the grey shadow seen when Saruman's body died. But we don't really know a lot of detail about Gandalf's death and resurrection, do we? I can imagine.

I still haven't been to Butchart Gardens, although I've been both to Anne Hathaway's House in Stratford-on-Avon and to the reproduction of the House that's in Victoria. Want to return someday to both England and Victoria one day.

Am so glad you were able to get back to this. I'll be back at Meesh's for Easter and my birthday (as it's a leap year I get passed over for my birthday on Easter yet again! No fair! Not until I'm in my eighties, I understand.). Don't know when I'll be able to see you, I fear. I'll let you know when plans are firmed up.

Nice to know more hobbits know the truth now about Frodo. Love most that bit about his childhood love for writing and drawing. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I always picture Frodo as one of an artistic temperament, and that he took to reading and writing almost naturally. And certainly the Shire ought to have honored their deputy Mayor more than they did, no matter how short a term he knew. Thanks so, Antane.

Deep and detailed,it felt quite hobbitish. Thanks.

Author Reply: Thank you so, Walker-skye. I love imagining what the Shire was like, as well as the youths of its most famous denizens.

What an incredible education for these children. It's hard to imagine the sadness and frustration Sam must have felt whenever Frodo was laughed at or disrespected. In all his many years as Mayor, he'll be a wonderful example and teacher for the Shirefolk.

Author Reply: Oh, but that is very true, Shirebound. And with the contrast between Lotho's example and that of Frodo, he has a good deal to teach from!

The Sugarbeets children have learned a valuable lesson during their visit with Sam. More than one, I suspect!

Author Reply: That they have. But most people of the Shire have little understanding of what happened Outside. Thanks, Kathy.
