| I hope that their fears are unfounded. At least Pippin now knows why the charges were raised, and has a concrete plan to follow. Author Reply: I got to thinking... how would somebody (like Pippin or Regi) know that if The Took is involved, a convocation of Tooks must be called together in a case of banishment. After all, Paladin presided over the banishments that took place after the Troubles, and it is possible that no Thain has been involved in a banishing case in living memory. Up until Farry ran away and triggered this one. It must have been quite something when one of the loremasters found out that Pippin had been the accuser, and yet Ferdi and Tolly were not appreciably (apparently) wealthier... Thanks! | |

| I am often glad this site lets us review more than once a chaoter. I liked the image of courage like a shoot of spring green. And, probably my favorite of the Beregond stories is the last chapter of your Lifewatch. I am sure I never reviewed that one, but I like the whole thing very much. And I am glad you are still writing. Author Reply: I am glad, too! I am so often heartened or enlightened by the reviews you and others leave. From hearing what jumped out at you, to highlighting something to ponder, to pointing out an error or inconsistency, to simply having a human connection (while I would write for my own love of the characters, it’s so nice to know I’m not just talking to myself)... it’s so nice to hear from you. Author Reply: (p.s. I am glad this site allows more than one reply, because I forgot to mention that Beregond’s story was my gateway into fanfic. His plight—making a choice that he knew meant his condemnation, and yet freely making that choice and living with the consequences for some weeks after, having to anticipate his death—struck a chord with me after I watched a sibling walk courageously through the last months of cancer.) | |

| This chapter has a similar atmosphere to several of the excellent stories posted over the years showing Beregond's family and friends waiting anxiously for news of his fate, as he faces Aragorn for judgement. Just as I read the last few lines, I noticed something. In the room, after having been hustled out of the hearing, are Pippin, Ferdi, Tolly, Evrard and Regi. No Meadowsweet, no Pimpernel, and, where is Faramir? If the Questioner does indeed ask for any more for the defense, there ARE still some in the hearing who would TRY to speak up, anyway. As Pippin said, it might not do any good. But I wonder if the lad who persuaded his family to allow him shooting lessons when not much out of Faunthood might still have something to say. Yes, the last we saw him he was being comforted. But perhaps at the last moment he just might find his courage. He is, after all, of the generation of children born after the Ring War. Who knows what remarkable talents may show themselves when he needs them? I will be anxiously watching! Author Reply: You’re right! Leaving the five accused alone together, waiting, was a deliberate choice. Their loved ones should be allowed to speak in their defense, I should think, though unless they had new evidence to add , there wouldn’t be much hope. I love this picture you’ve painted of Farry. It has been fun to see him come into his own as this story has proceeded (much more to come, LOL!). Thanks so much! | |

| Lindelea! I forgot to write in the last chapter how impressed I was with your understanding of the Hobbit system of courts. Very impressive! Once again I am await the next chapter! The suspense has me on pins and needles, And yes, Faramir would indeed welcome Pippin, family and friends to live in Ithilien but I really hope it won't come to that. Author Reply: Hello! Thank you for the kudos. The system has sort of developed over a span of years, but I have tried to stay consistent with the nature of hobbits as I understand them, and from one story to another. Someone pointed out an inconsistency to me the other day that helped me clarify the process in this story, thankfully. To borrow from Aragorn’s speech in the ROTK movie, someday there will be a small but thriving community of hobbits in Ithilien, but (preferably) not this day. Thanks! | |
