| Your mention of Thranduil's losses made me suddenly think of my uncle, who was a medic at the Battle of the Bulge. They said he didn't speak a word for a full six months after getting home from the war. ((hugs)) stay safe. Author Reply: Lindelea! War affects the mind in some very tragic and traumatic ways. It really tests the human spirit. I always have found it very moving that Elves can die of grief or from having too many traumatic emotions weighing on their spirit. Their spirits are can be so damaged that they can simply fade away. ((hugs)) stay safe, mellon nin! MM | |

| I had a sudden mental picture of Legolas's arrival being like the coming of the spring leaves to the barren winter trees. One day, the sky is grey and blustery, and the bare trees rear above like skeletons against the sky, seeming dead and desolate. And then the next day, the sky is blue, and the new leaves (or perhaps their buds?), barely emerged, appear to edge the treetops in fine lace. Alas, poor Thranduil. That campaign where so many heroes died (including Orophin) must have scarred his mind and heart forever after. I'm glad that Legolas could bring joy and some kind of healing. (hugs) hope this finds you well. Author Reply: Lindelea! I love that image. And I do think that Legolas is central to Thranduil's heart. Thranduil lost his father and two-thirds of his army. I do his life experiences have seriously scarred him. Legolas is his joy. And as I said to Larner, At least this once Thranduil gets to be happy and at peace. I am well. Hope you are as well.
