| Larner! It is good to see Frodo out and about engaging with the world even though we see much of the sadness of the Shire that was left by the hobbits gone wrong and the Big Men. Frodo understands the pain that Lodo feels. While it is not of the same scale in the larger scheme of things what Lodo has lost is just as painful and devastating as what Frodo has endured. Lodo lost his whole world, his farm, his family. Very sad. These are the often overlooked costs of war and upheaval. This story is wonderfully crafted. I am really enjoying it! | It breaks my heart to imagine our beloved Shire and its hobbits so deeply hurt, so it's no wonder I keep writing all those "happy and healed" AU's! I appreciate how you write Frodo and Sam as such a bonded team, as they ever have been. Author Reply: The healing of the Shire was a hard job, and I'm certain all four of the Travellers took part in it. How it must have hurt Frodo to see so much damage done solely to hurt him by hurting his friends, They are both committed to seeing all made right as well as they can. Sam still hasn't thought of the Lady's gift--how much that must have heartened him once he saw the effects of each grain of its dust as the new trees began to grow at many times their normal rate. | Oh, one more observation. It appears that neither Sam or Frodo have any memory of the visions of themselves that the Ring created for their friends at home. It will be interesting to see how that comes out. Author Reply: No, they don't have many memories not specifically focused on much more than their actual Ring-centered activities. It will be most interesting to see how they are reminded of these experiences. Heh! Again, thanks so, Demeter D. | |

| I have to agree with Sam. "Mister Strider" would indeed have been pleased to see that Frodo had gained from his lessons in observing out in the wild. And, I am sure, "mad Baggins", Bilbo himself, would have taught Frodo as much as he could about being observant on their many treks across the Shire. And, curiouser and curiouser. There are beginning to be many hints that the children and their Gammer may indeed have found someplace safe in which to hide. Hobbits were said to be gifted in foraging for food, even in the winter. This is looking hopeful! Author Reply: I suspect that all Hobbits were able to forage pretty easily, but getting starches in the winter would have been difficult, which would lead them to look for caches of seeds and nuts, I'd think. And as I have Sam say, I'm certain that Frodo was a quick study for learning to track, particularly once he was in Aragorn's company. Yes, Bilbo was likely to have taught him some woodcraft skills when he was younger. As for the Teasel children--that remains to be seen, of course. Heh! | |

| How did I miss the first chapter of this Larner? Intriguing and I love a good mystery. I think we share a delight in Cadfael. I am not going to speculate aloud. Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds. Author Reply: Oh, but I do love Ellis Peter's/Elizabeth Pargeter's writing. I have all of the Brother Cadfael books as well as the Inspector Felse series, and my favorite book by her is the Heaven Tree trilogy. Hope that the mystery isn't too obvious.
