Let Sleeping Dogs Lie  by Lindelea 5 Review(s)

I am reminded of the movie, “The Russians are Coming”, where the American townfolk and Russian sailors join to save the children dangling from the roof.

Author Reply: Oh! Thank you for reminding me of that scene! You're right. I hadn't made that connection before, but the idea is very similar in this story and that one: setting aside existing hostilities to save an imperiled little one, everyone suddenly united in purpose and hope and worry. (And then all those people in small boats determinedly escorting the submarine to safety... What a delightful ending.) Alan Arkin has long been near the top of the list of my favorite actors. I still remember clearly his deaf-mute character talking to himself in sign language in The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, even though I was only a small child when I saw it. His performance was deeply moving and convincing.

There's a snippet of dialogue from The Russians Are Coming that we have quoted for decades just because it delights us. Alan Arkin is attempting to teach his men an English phrase to help them blend in with the citizens of the small US seaside community while trying to figure out how to get out of the situation without getting arrested or killed, and they are doing their best to repeat after him:
"Emergency! Everybody to get off street! Emergency!"
"Egermency?"
"Nyet! Emergency! Emergency!"

Our children learned that quote from us long before they got a chance to see the movie it came from. LOL!

Thanks so much for reading and taking time to share your thoughts.

Oh, indeed, the right direction now! And they are going to be needed, the two of them, along with Eomer and Sam, as Pippin is pulled from the wreckage of the fallen building. I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author Reply: Thanks so much for your encouragement!

The new meds seem to be working, and the old one has worn off to the extent that my brain is once again on speaking terms with me, so I'm back (like a bad penny, as they say). I hope to resume regular updates again this week

Hope this finds you well!

Lindelea!

So happy to see that Aragorn has found Pippin. I love the deft way you speak of him seen through Haradrim eyes. Love that! What will that Haradrim think when he finds out that it is the Gondorian King that risked his own life to save Pippin and Bergil.

I am really enjoying this story!!

Stay safe!

((hugs))

P.S. Yeah I didn't really feel my normal self till really Saturday. But I am feeling good now and just waiting that two weeks till the vaccine is fully effective. Hopefully by sometime in the summer we can stop wearing masks but until then...

Author Reply: MM!

I am so looking forward to the Haradrim making that connection between Healer and King! I'm glad you're enjoying the story, and thanks so much for your encouragement. I haven't had much of a brain to speak of over the past couple months, but my doc finally said, "This isn't working," and switched some things around, and I've come out of the fog, so I'm hoping to rejoin the stream of reading and writing and conversing again.

((hugs)) and I hope this finds you well.

What is that pup wanting in a dark crack??? I like Haradrim's assumption that the "children" must belong to the, yet unknown, king. Looking forward to the resolution and getting everyone out of these ruins. And can't wait for these Haradrim to see exactly who is down in the depths helping them!

Author Reply: I love hearing your thoughts, and what parts you like. Very helpful and encouraging! It will be very interesting to see their reaction when they finally realize who this Healer actually is, I hope!

((hugs)) and thanks. Hope this reply finds you well.

Author Reply: p.s. the Mystery of the Dark Crack will soon become clear. And make sense! (it is to be hoped...)

A king, perhaps. But then again, what king would risk himself in the rubble?

It's interesting to share the thoughts of the Ambassador and the General, as they try to decipher what's going on around them based on their own experiences.

Author Reply: Goodness, I haven't answered any reviews for this chapter! My apologies. I went through a rough spell since posting this, and I'm just getting my balance (or is it my bearings?) back. Thank you so much for your thoughts.

I do find it interesting to consider what a situation might look like to someone who's working on limited information, as well as how their very perceptions and sensations change based on what they know (and don't know) about a matter.

((hugs)) to you, and I hope this finds you well.
