The story summary says "In progress"; is there more? Somehow this reminds me of a scoutmaster on an overnight hike with his troop. I am also reminded of several accounts I've read of people walking a horse with colic around and around to get it through the acute stage and save its life. I wonder if Galador, as a blacksmith's son, would also make that connection? Ragnor has a lot of faith in his Captain, as is only right.

Thorongil has his priorities straight. I hope this recruit realizes how lucky he is with this captain over him.

You know, the way you describe those lads' behaviour is so exactly right, I might suspect you've been secretly watching some of my pupils!

Wow! That was a great short story! I love your stories about Thorongil! You've got it right, when someone ingests poison, give activated charcoal to bind with the poison, preventing the body from absorbing it, and a saline laxative to push it though the system. The same is true for horses. kudos!

“Don't you dare let go!” said Thorongil. “You are under my command and my protection. I do not lightly give up on my men.” He squeezed Galador's shoulder and looked him straight in the eeye, his gaze full of compassion. “Come on, lad, this is your first battle you cannot surrender.” “The Captain would go to Mordor and back with us,” said Ragnor. “You can't give up, not while he's fighting for you.” I love that passage so much!
