| Legolas is having a hard time with Beliond, he seems to rub him the wrong way. As both of them would rather not be with each other. Eilian seems down in spirit, and that is proble the shadow. MAltanaur thought of him and brought a rune of protection, you can see he cares for Eilian very much, more friends than bodyguard now... Author Reply: The rune of protection thing got to be kind of a running joke in this story. I have to amuse myself somehow! | |

| The foremost thought in my mind after reading that chapter is: I like Todith. I really like him. He seems like a great captain, especially for a new warrior. I am quite thrilled to see Amdir. Honstly, you've got to have troublesome people to make things interesting. And funny. Sigh. Will Legolas and Beliond ever learn to appreciate each other? Thranduil did a wonderful job picking Maltenaur for Eilien, no wait, first for Ithildien. I'm having to wonder about his choice of Beliond. It was very sweet to see Legolas's thoughts as he falls asleep. I loved the thought of the elflings building a flet in Annael's backyard. A treehouse! Speaking of which I thought it was sad seeing how Legolas missed Annael. And poor Thranduil. We didn't see him in this chapter, but I can bet on how he's feeling. What do you think of Orlando Bloom's portrayal of Legolas? Ciao. Author Reply: I like Todith too. I think he's a good captain in general. I also think that if he could serve as Eilian's captain (and make teach him to be a responsible warrior and leader), he could serve as anyone's! I liked the idea of a treehouse for elflings too. I am just today planning to be writing about Thranduil thinking about Legolas. Poor king. I will admit that Orlando Bloom's face is now how I see Legolas. And why not? The guy is gorgeous, plus he did manage to capture that combination of Elven innocence and fierce warrior that seems right for Legolas. Oh what the heck. Why not admit it? I am a squeeing fan girl. | |

| Ai, been out sick and am still slowly recovering, but I finally managed to get back on line! It seems the lartest lesson Legolas will have to learn is learning to accept Beliond, and likewise. It seems that Legolas and Eilian share many traits as in common in siblings. I will enjoy seeing Legolas grow as a warrior and see how he eventually becomes the Legolas we all love! Author Reply: I'll enjoy seeing Legolas grow too. It's interesting to me that I am finding it harder to write this story that previous ones, I think because it's new territory for me as well as Legolas. Feel better, Fades! | |

| Aack! I am so behind - stupid visiting relatives. Don't they know the holidays are for reading, not socializing? The warrior ceremony was very touching. I am glad that Legolas is so excited about this big change is his life. He and Annael must be about to burst. I am worried for Eilian. He is really taking everything so hard these days. Legolas wants the respect of Beliond but he doesn't seem to want the give the old warrior the respect that he deserves. That is not usually like him. I guess all of the recent changes have gone to his head. I imagine you will set him straight soon. In this chapter Legolas' patience continues to wear thin. He won't even speak to his keeper politely. No wonder Beliond thinks he is a spoiled brat. He is certainly acting like one. I can't really blame Beliond for treating him with disdain. They are not getting off on the right foot are they? (I think they are using Legolas' broken one) It is good to see that at least Todith has not judged the young archer yet. The flat spot on the back of his rune is very cute. I can see a nervous Eilian playing with it as well. I am glad to see Tynd in the patrol. At least Legolas will have one friend. Tinar is there too? That should make things more interesting. He is going to learn a lesson in humility in archery. I like it when you add troublesome characters. They keep things very interesting. I am glad Eilian is well enough to leave the palace. The distraction will do him some good. Is it going to be Absence makes the heart grow fonder? or Out of sight, out of mind? Pick a cliche. He and Celuwen still have some issues to resolve don't they? His sadness on his flet was well described and my heart went out to him again. The two rune necklaces were clever. Legolas' excitement over sleeping beneath the stars was very cute. It was also very in keeping with his youthful character, as was his loneliness. Great job as usual! Tapetum Author Reply: Eilian is having a tough time, but at least his father and Maltanaur showed their affection and concern and I think that has to help. He certainly has some issues to deal with before any woman in her right mind would go near him. Legolas will settle down. He just had a bad first meeting with Beliond. Beliond criticized him and he got snooty and defensive. Now he needs to back down and that's not easy. As for Tinar, I think he has a lesson in humility coming! And it couldn't happen to a more worth guy. | |

| Hmmn. Your warriors seem to be finding it a little tough to get used to their new situations. You did a fantastic job in showing the awkwardness they both feel as they take up their new positions. Beliond is really quite funny – he’s one of these people who make you wonder if he can hear himself when he talks. He reminds me of someone but I can’t quite place who it is. Maybe it’s Maldor, actually. I can see why he thinks Legolas is arrogant but I think Todith is probably right in his assertion that most young elves are. It must be difficult for someone of Beliond’s experience to be given such an assignment anyway. I hope Legolas does win his respect at some point. Oh look, it’s Tynd! I’m so glad you decided to include some familiar faces – I was beginning to fear that I’d never know who was who in these patrols, but you’ve made it easy for me. And there’s Tinar! LOL! He’s at least learned to hold his tongue a little, anyway. Galelas seems to be getting on a bit better than his brother. It was strangely touching that he was so grateful when Eilian remembered his name! I’m sure everyone will say it, but… poor Eilian. He’s really struggling, isn’t he? Still, at least he’s determined to make an effort. I just wish that he could see past his anger and stop blaming Celuwen for his life spiralling out of control. I think deep down he’s more angry at himself, though – a problem he seems to have had right from the start. How sweet is Maltanaur?! Either that or desperately going to any length to protect his rather unpredictable charge…. At least he made Eilian happy, even for a fleeting moment. Sometimes I think Eilian just needs to be reassured that he is loved. I thought the final paragraph was a perfect insight into Legolas’ first night away from home and his friends. And what do you bet that while his two sons are lying awake in the forest there’s a certain elvenking feeling a little lonely too…? Ah well, I’m sure they’ll all get used to these changes soon enough! Author Reply: Poor Beliond. Imagine how much Eilian would kick if he were given an assignment babysitting the king's youngest son, and Beliond is much older and more experienced. I have so many OCs now that I have spare ones for any occasion. I think new readers (assuming there are any) must get deeply confused. Tinar has learned to hold his tongue in front of Todith anyway. Eilian needs to be OK with himself before he can expect Celuwen to have anything to do with him, even assuming that their duties don't keep them apart. I love Maltanaur. He's really grown on me. Eilian does need to feel loved. His relationship with his father is difficult, and his mother is dead. I think he really valued the uncritical adoration of his little brother. | |

| I can certainly see why Legolas is rather upset at Beliond's presence. And I can certainly see why Beliond is upset at having to 'babysit' Legolas. I am well familiar with both situations, but you portray the tension so well that I can't help but feel a little jealous at how you can easily twist the words the way you want them, while I am stuggling to put my thoughts down and make them into a chapter that everyone will like. (sigh) Self-pity party here. Can you tell;-) I feel sorry for Eilian, but he certainly does need a break. I am glad that both Ithilden and Thranduil have agreed to send him to a lighter task. | I find it humorous that in the last story, Legolas was longing for the "freedom" of being an adult, and in this chapter, he feels as though he is an elfling again because of Beliond's constant observation. I am loving your attention to those small details that make your story wonderful. As Todith settled under the shade of that oak tree, I could feel the warm sunshine even though it's overcast and cold here! I'm glad Legolas has a friend in the group. When he's around Beliond, he isn't at his best. Hopefully, Tynd will help Legolas to merge into the group and feel more "at home", but also, hopefully, he will be the mature adult that we know he *can* be when he's with Tynd. Thank you for the scene with Maltanaur and Eilian. It was so touching when Maltanaur presented the rune to Eilian. I still think that Eilian is in need of a good group hug, and I volunteer to help with that! Author Reply: I need to get Legolas out acting like a warrior. Both he and Beliond should learn something from the experience. You're right that he's not at his best with Beliond. He just gets all defensive and haughty and then Beliond thinks he's right that Legolas is arrogant. I love Maltanaur. He's been an important person in Eilian's life. Thranduil chose well there. | |

| i think i'd die before i became a warrior. i can't put up being around people for very long at all. my new room is at the very top of the house and i'm on my own floor. Yay! but then everyone still wants to pester me every minute of the day even when i'm trying to sleep. oh, well. least it's not as bad a situation Legolas is in right now. Author Reply: Perhaps your room is like a flet, being so high up, and Legolas would like it. I'd do badly as a warrior for much bigger reasons than lack of privacy - like I'd probably faint if an Orc came near me. | |

| Lovely chapter so Legolas finds his new freedom to be less than he expected back to the bottom of the pile and with a built in baby-sitter who doesn't seem too impressed with his new charge. There will need to be compromise and understanding on both their parts for this to work. Eilian is so unhappy no doubt his arrival will signal the end of the peace and quiet of his new patrol they will wonder what hit them and how is Thranduil managing now his last chick has flown? Author Reply: I plan to get back to Thranduil eventually. I'll bet he's thinking about Legolas at least as much as Legolas is thinking about him. And you are undoubtedly right. As Maltanaur says, trouble follows Eilian around. His new patrol should have a much more exciting time now! | |
