Family Matters  by Lindelea 2 Review(s)
Lady ForlongReviewed Chapter: 4 on 6/29/2025
"It was rather inconvenient for anyone who might want to put something past the hobbit, however."

“It was considered eccentric for a hobbit not to like the taste of tea,” (or of anything else, I would suppose.)

“Tripping over his tongue would quickly solve this dilemma he found himself in, wouldn’t it?”

This chapter is just full of quotable quotes.

Bolham sounds like the Shire version of Robin Hood.

Author Reply: Bolham sounds like the Shire version of Robin Hood.

There's actually a story behind that! At the time Bolham's raiders became a part of my Shire timeline in the early 2000s, the wee hobbits and I were reading aloud from Howard Pyle's The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood. We also watched Errol Flynn's Robin Hood movie and binged all the episodes of an old Robin Hood television series, probably the Richard Greene version, that we were able to find at the library in DVD format (I looked it up just now, and you can actually stream the series for free on several platforms right now!). I also watched some Great Course lectures about the origins behind certain stories including Robin Hood and King Arthur. About the time we were immersing ourselves in Robin Hoodish ideas, I noticed Bindbole Wood on a map of the Shire...

So there's a connection, as you noticed.

Cool! He’s going to meet Robin Hood! ;-P

I’m sure they somehow feel that this will bolster his confidence. And I’m sure it will somehow go wrong… because there wouldn’t be a story otherwise! I look forward to it, and hope he’s feel a little better about himself at the end of it all…

Author Reply: That's what my kids said when I first told them about Bolham the Red! Years ago, it was, but Bolham kept popping up in my imagination until I finally had to include him in a story. Speaking of characters doing unexpected things... Exactly that phenomenon happened during more than one chapter of this current story. (I remember thinking in a scene with Merry where Merry said something that seemed completely out of the blue, and yet seemed to fit somehow, "Where in the world did that come from? And how?" LOL.)

I’m sure it will somehow go wrong
Around here, we just call it "the luck of the Tooks".
