The Tenth Walker  by Lindelea 4 Review(s)

Love the pony's vision of what the others see, and his appreciation for the worry as to how they will enter the Mines.

Author Reply: He can certainly read their emotions, even though he can't make sense of the lines that appear on the rocky surface of the cliffs. (While I've seen video of studies where dolphins and other creatures were able to learn to recognise fairly simple symbols and shapes – who knows what complex shapes they naturally respond to in the wild? – I'm not sure if any such studies have been conducted with equines. So I went with the idea that Bill couldn't distinguish a star from a rune or a tree in a 2D rendering.)

Thanks!

Oh, boy! And the minute when Bill has to be left behind approaches, if not in the next chapter, then possibly the one after. How many chapters will this story consist of, before you start posting Part 2?

Author Reply: You've guessed right: the next chapter concludes this part of Bill's story. Part 2 will probably be much shorter, LOL! Thanks for coming along for the journey and stopping to share your thoughts. I appreciate your feedback.

and then I solve the riddle! It is a word that will allow the Company to pass!

I can almost begin to understand Dwarf ponies' fascination for riddles.

That's a delightful detail. :)

Author Reply: How I love Bill! He always tries his best.

It's good that Bill busied himself with solving riddles! Otherwise he would have been bored listening to his people argue all night about the door and the password.
Who is "curious-than-Merry"? Pippin, I suppose? But Bill referred to Pippin as "Youngest".

Author Reply: All of the hyphenated "Merry" names refer to Merry. Throughout the story, Bill is confused at Merry's name since the hobbit is so often not merry. Thus, Bill tries his hardest to name Merry accurately while never able to figure out what to call Merry. Poor pony. He does his best.

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts! The last chapter of Bill's journey as the Tenth Walker is due to post on Tuesday, and Part 2 telling of his journey home is scheduled to start posting in April. (Think good thoughts.)
