Author Reply: This was written to memorialize tribute brought me in this manner by Lydia, my first snowshoe Siamese, with her Charlie Chaplin mustache and her determination to single-cattedly eradicate the Olympic Peninsula vole. She was with me for 18 of her 22 years. I also remember how 9-pound Scollops would lead 14-pound Diablo, both Author Reply: seal points, both hauling enormous Norwegian ship rats from Seattle's grain elevators up Magnolia Hill to lay at my feet.
