I love that. It reminds me of what Merry said to Aragorn in ROTK: "It is the way of my people to use light words at such times and say less than they mean."

What an exciting chapter!

Author Reply: "...use light words and say less..." So true! That's one of the endearing things about hobbits, to my mind.

And now, I'm happy to say, we've won past the worst of the angst and are ready to launch into the "comfort" part of the story. Whew.
